Is there any way to open the file? The database worked before editing with access 2016. Changes I made: added some vba code, changed/made few queries and reports.
The error I get is only "unrecognized database format".
When I go to save as Access 2002-2003 database (*.mdb) nothing happens.
I also tried to make a 2002-2003 database in access 2016 and then import everything and save as .mdb, it did open in 2007 but many things didnt work.
Importing in 2007 wasnt working either.

Hi. You may have to go back to your latest backup copy that was working in 2007 and then open it in 2007 and apply the changes you made using 2016. You should make design changes or any development work using the lowest version you want the database to work with.

It's hard to say what 2016-only feature you may have added that broke it for 2007, but you could certainly try removing them one at a time to see if you could save time that way. I think the first one you could try is to remove any Themes. Hope it helps...

try M$ pages for 'compatibility between Access 2010 and 2007' and for 2016 - 2010 as well. I don't think you'll find a M$ direct comparison for 2016 - 2007 as the span is too great for those that figure we should all just move on. Your problem could be as simple as the choice of a data type or sort order.

There IS the possibility that it is merely references that need to be reset back to their older versions. Access automatically upgrades references when newer ones exist but does NOT automatically downgrade when you go back. To Microsoft, an upgrade is a one-way street.

Have you tried opening with the shift key.?

I get that all the time here when I download user's databases, but I never know in which version they are created. I have managed to open one or two with the shift key, but they might have been 2010. I know at least one was as it was from isladogs.

Thanks for all the replies. I will probably stick to 2007 to avoid that but I will definitely try to find out a little what could it be. When I find some more time I will try all the suggestions.
I tired the shift key before but it didn't help.
On my laptop I have installed both versions 2007 and 2016. I tired to set the msacc.olb in references so i got the 2016 version in 2007 but didn't really help.
