Hello, I’m not sure if this is an appropriate question for this forum but I downloaded the ‘Access 2007 Runtime’ program from Microsoft’s Download Center onto a PC which does not have Access. I then installed one of my Access applications but when I try to run this application I get the following error message…

Your database or project contains a missing or broken reference to the file ‘utility.mda’.
*To insure that your database or project works properly, you must fix this reference.

Would anyone have an idea on how I can fix this reference? Thank you for your time.

Hi PRD,

Close but no cigar...

MS thought of this trick and of course blocked that avenue. Either you find a legit owner of Access and ask him to build a runtime package or you buy Access...

PRD:

I can't say that I know much about the subject of references or how to fix them but you may find the links below of use. From what I've read, it seems as though you will need to remove the reference to utility.mda in the original db before you distribute it or distribute the utility.mda file with it.
The first link has some advice from Bob Larson and from Pat Harman. I have seen and read many of their posts and have the utmost respect for their advice. They are almost never wrong.

Hi PRD,

I first thought that you were trying to use Access runtime version as a retail version of Access: my mistake...

You are probably running an Access 97 application with an Access 2007 (?) runtime. Anyway, this will solve your problem:
