forgive me if this question has already been answered a thousand times, maybe my search skills are worse than I thought.

Is there a limit that Autonumbers generated will reach, after which it stops, or is it infinity?

The reason I ask is that I have a database with a table inc. Autonumber ID field, and this increments by around 24000 lines per month. I am worried that it will hit a number too large.

I am not sure about the autonumber limit, but take care if your table is increasing that much considering the limitations of Access ... having a table with increases by 24000 per month might render your database a bit sluggish.

An autonumber is a LONG, so your limit is probably 31 bits = 2.1 billion.

Even at 24,000 per month, it will take quite a few months to eat through 2.1 billion numbers. 24,000 per month is 288,000 per year, or just over 1/4 million. So four years per million. Maybe you would run out in four thousand years... unless your business picks up a lot more.

Thanks guys!

Maxmangion - everything is sluggish here.....

Hopefully I will have moved on in four thousand years, so I guess this database will be ok for a bit!

Cheers

Jon
