I agree generally, but definition is one thing; interpretation/understanding is another. Temper that with lobbyists, spin-specialists, marketeers and people in authority with access to an audience(s). Media moguls are focused on money (ROI), facts are secondary. Or as has been attributed to the National Enquirer --"It could have happened this way".

It always seems to me that the harder one side tries to squash an opposing theory, the more credence I should give to the opposing theory. Rather than looking for more proof or more convincing proof, they just do their best to cancel any who disagree with the "correct" opinion.

Nearly right. Instead, the media uses computer chips in your computer to disseminate fake news, but fails to control Republican minds. They only get confused because of the nonsense the media disseminates when compared to the facts. Look at the Russia collusion hoax that caught gullible Democrats hook, line and sinker, a corruption that was blatantly obvious to Republicans.

This reminds me a bit of an argument about the incredible unlikeliness of the Universe existing, because you had to have the physics set up in a certain way to maintain any kind of equilibrium

My usual response to this is simple: The universe exists. We are in it. But the universe was not fine-tuned for us. It came first. WE came second and WE are what evolved to exist in the only universe we had. The "fine-tuned universe" argument is actually just Man's over-active ego speaking.

You mean like the one that says we are powerful enough to control the climate if we will only stop emitting greenhouse gasses All the US has to do is revert to around 1600 AD and that solves the entire problem because the US is the proximate cause of climate change.
