Hello,

I have a project in Access where I am linked to a .dbf IV file. This file is populated by another software and I use Access to manipulate query the data. This file that I am linked to is now 923 Mb and I can’t seem to reduce the size of it.
I have run delete queries and a compact and repair. Any ideas on how to reduce this file size?

Thatnks,
Hunter O

Read the table into an Access table, rename the DBF file, then export the Access version table as a DBF file.

Definately back up the DBF file, though, in case of version incapatibilities.

Let me know what the resulting file size is.

I will try this when I get into work just out of curiosity. I have switched to ODBC logging instead of dbf IV since I posted.

BTW Your name and avatar and location look familiar, do you also work with PLC?

Thanks,
Hunter

Nope, I'm a SQL, VB, Office kinda guy.

I'd be interested to know what kind of drop in size you get because I thought that IV had built in garbage collection. It would be interesting to see how much was shrunk down.
