We got some snow, and are expecting more in the next two days. Methinks they keep most of the snow on this side of the pond

Methinks you might be right .. bloomin good job too as the UK grinds to a shuddering halt as soon as it even threatens snow ...... Great for us though, day off work!!!!

Well, enjoy the day. We did not even get an early closing and do not expect it tomorrow or Wednesday

Unfortunately we didn't get a day off as the rain came and washed away the snow, hence the :(

Sun is out now, but it's still bloomin cold!!!

New Orleans gets snow about once every seven years. It has only stayed around longer than one day twice in my lifetime (I'm 60).

The last time was at least two years ago when it snowed on Christmas day. That time, it didn't say. The last one that stayed was perhaps '96 or '97.

The "Big Snow" for us was 1956, when the snow stuck around for three days before the daytime temps got above freezing. It pretty much shut down the city because nobody in New Orleans has snow chains or snow tires unless they are a transplant from way up north. (To us, "Way up north" is anything north of the Mason-Dixon line, which you can Google or search Wikipedia.ORG to read about if you don't know that one.)

We have not had snow yet but the temperature has been hanging around -14. Last week we had a snowy owl looking for field snacks.

It snowed that same day in Houston as well, if I'm remembering the year correctly. It made for quite an exciting day for us Houstonians. That was the first time I'd seen snow; it was right before my first ski trip.

It's snowing outside the window as I write this.
Not too heavy, but steadily.

I'm on the 42nd floor and I can't see the ground to know whether it's settling or not.

We have a place in New Orleans where vehicles get trapped in water that LOOKS like it is just a foot deep or so. But in fact, it is five feet deep at the worst part. It is an underpass and when the flooding occurs at that spot, the shape of the surrounding area totally obscures the contour. Until you notice the running lights sticking above the water and realise it is the top of a pickup truck with yellow safety lights on top. And nothing else is visible.

I'd laugh except that more than one person has drowned in that depression.

If you are ever on Interstate 10 inbound to New Orleans when it is raining heavily and you are approaching the south side of the cemetery district under a train trestle, take your foot off the gas. Keep it near the brakes.

I think the last time we had snow on Christmas Day in my part of the UK (I was living in Dorset at that time, which is on the South Coast) was mid-90's.

We had my mum's sister and niece staying from Australia, the sister grew up in Lowestoft and emigrated but the niece had never been to the UK. We'd been hoping for snow the whole time they were over, and when we woke up on Christmas morning it had snowed overnight and was still snowing - my cousin had never seen snow falling in her life .. it definitely made our Christmas!

ITS SNOWING TODAY!

Spent 1/2 hour scraping the driveway and an hour and a half making some bonhomme and sliding on a toboggan :)

We got snow last night, it lasted all of 15 minutes and turned to rain :( what a shame, still, looks like we might get a good covering at some point this year, fingers crossed. It'll be fun because I'm in hybernation this year :D

Great photo of the snow owl by the way Fifty2One, he's just beautiful!
