But the real problem is probably that the user thinks is close command is preventing the record from being saved and not the form's design changes.

How did you "delete" a field value? The only correct way is to use the escape key. If you use the space key or the backspace, you leave a ZLS in the field.

Doesn't it depend on what you're doing while in edit mode?
