I think a confirmation on posting is probably the easiest way...

You could use swf's or some other format to display a 3 digit code and for that to match a stored code for the picture.

Only problem is the inital data creation of codes/swfs...

Or a report spam button which auto-removes posts 5 or more IP addresses report as spam, until a moderator can review it.

There is a nice solution to use either in lieu of the image verification, or to replace it. It is the No-Spam! hack. It has worked wonders for everyone I have recommended it to.

No idea. The forum's owner asked me not to make any changes until I'd consulted him. And then promptly vanished and hasn't been seen since. (As he does.)

On the structure I think it would be helpful if there was a section for:

Design Best Practice

To cover Front End / Back End etc.

On the spamming front would be be possible to deaden the URL links this may mean that we would have to copy and paste but no-one is going to bothered with doing this for spam emails.
