Question How on earth do I change the file extension to .accdr?

Am I being stupid again? All the resources on the net just say 'simply change the file extension to .accdr....but HOW??!!

Right click on the file, click "rename" and change the extension there maybe?

I don't know if anything could be that simple though, so I could be wrong.

Tried that, I just end up with 'myDB.accdr.accde'

Try changing to accdb and from there to accde. When I googled it I come up with sites that talk about changing accdr to accdb. And the Accde is done from accdb. Just an idea. I don't know if it will work.

You can convert any Access 2007 .accdb database to an .accde file by opening the file, clicking the Database Tools tab, and clicking the Make ACCDE button to open the Save As dialog. Navigate to the location for the .accde file and click Save to create and save the file. Then close the dialog.

The problem with .accdr files is that users quickly discover they can simply change the file extension from .accdr to .accdb to regain lost design and navigation features.

By default, when you use windows explorer there is an option checked that hides known file extension types. This is why when you rename it you wind up with

'myDB.accdr.accde'

To turn on the option to see all known file extensions, In the Windows Explorer window, go to Tools --> Folder Options. The setting is under the View Tab.

The assumption people made was that people who are developing Access applications would know enough to have "show file extensions" turned on in Windows explorer. If you work with them turned off, you can never rename a file extension because you can't see it.
So, to summarize -
1. Make sure your Windows Explorer options are set to show file extensions.
2. Change the .accdb or .accde part to .accdr using the Rename option from the right-click menu.
