Hello. I am a New Zealander, living in Auckland. I am 71 years old and have been an enthusiastic programmer since the early days of Access 97. I am not a professional, but a fairly competent programmer. I have created a lot of databases to help me in my work in medical electronics (I am a senior boimedical technician at Auckland Hospital). My workplace still uses Windows XP and Access 2003, so I have concentrated on becoming knowledgeable in these.

I am currently in the process of creating a replacement database for another hospital department who have spent the last ten years using an Access 97 database which was virtually a first attempt by some previous staff member. For a beginner he did a good job, but he created it using macros, and an extremely simple but inflexible data model. I have therefore inherited ten years of data and some restrictions on how I can plan my data model, since the procedures for data handling by the staff are based to some extent on the original data model. Ideally, I would like to ditch the lot and start again!

I have received a enormous amount of help over the years from all those generous people who answer questions on the internet and am grateful for this.
