Well the world is changing, and many of the old mechanisms that kept it "safe" are no longer in place.

As the last ripples of the cold war finally settle out, new powers are immerging to fill the vacuum.

Will we rejoice in its demise? Or will we miss the checks and balances between the East and West?

And will we watch in dismay (not unlike the fools, prier to WWI) as, once again, brinkmanship plunges the world, into global conflict?

the problem is captialism and the free market. a lot of countries don't agree with it, as it has tendancies to let people spiral out of control. if you have a large majority of people to control, communism is best in order to control the masses, so as they see it anyway.

doesn't necessarily mean it's the right way

There are as many reasons for war as there have been wars in the history of Man.

The main reasons in the past 100 years are:
Greed spawned by Capitalism
Greed spawned by Communism
Greed spawned by Religion
And the number one reason:
Just plain stupid people in charge.

Just plain stupid people in charge.

speaking of these individuals, have you seen the news headlines that now say that Obama says spending money on a stimulus package will cause a double dip economic recession? When I heard that I couldn't help but laugh. I didn't know whether to plan an assassination attempt or to just laugh myself to death. For those FBI agents reading this post, the seriousness of my attempt is at '0'.

I know of course that you will gravitate towards blaming all the world's woes on the US, but we are in so many ways, on the brink.

I actually don't suppose we will make any significant difference posting here, but we might. In any case we should certainly try.

If the English speaking world cannot pull together to effect positive change, what hope is there?

It is an undisputed fact that war did not exist before the creation of The USA, and that wars have worsened mightily since that state got hold of WMDs.

Brian

And you studied history where? Wars have always existed.

As for wars getting worse, that is a natural effect of the exponential increase in technology. Why do you think WWI was so bad? Mustard gas and machine guns were introduced. WMD's are certainly the peak of weaponry, but don't blame that on America. The Germans were trying to develop the bomb too, we just beat them to it. You sir, should be glad we did, because otherwise the Battle of England may have gone slightly differently.

A small lists of wars before the Americas:

That's Ok, you will find I'm not a US basher, not that I am not critical if need be, but that applies to anything.

I was in total belief you were that daft Brian.

I think maybe though that now you have been shown to be wrong, you claim you were sarcastic?

I got a kick out of that.

Don't worry Brian. There are only 2 at this site who make comments like that, as far as I know, you are not one of them.

Its OK Paul I had assumed that your previous post was sarcastic, tho' I wondered if you wanted to open a discussion on when the US came into being, was it the start or the end if the war of independence?

Ah she who must be obeyed has announced that dinner is ready.

cheerio for now.

It's only lunch time here.

As for the US, there are many different points that could be considered the start of the Union. You could say when the people became disgruntled, around the time of Thomas Payne's Common Sense. It could be the Fourth of July (Declaration of Independence!). It could be the date of the Treaty of Paris. It could be date that the Constitution was ratified. I would say it was when the people became disgruntled (Boston Tea Party, Boston Massacre), because it was all downhill from there. I don't think there was any stopping independence at that point, unless the Brits had won of course. Either way, it's all academic (and a bit off topic).
