Did you look at the format property of the column? Concatenation does not do this. If there is no format property, then I would guess it was corruption and rebuild the table.

Yes. My advice is and has always been, NEVER format any table column. All it does is to obfuscate the actual stored value and cause hours of consternation because you can't believe your lyin' eyes

OK, one exception. you can format as currency or percent because those don't change the actual values BUT they will still obfuscate the number of decimal places so even those you use at your own peril.
