I just learned something. Miss America is the pagent that has the interviews, talent show, etc. It awards a scholarship and their little catch phrase is "We're not looking for a model, we're looking for a role model." Miss USA, on the other hand, is primarily a beauty contest with basically no other cirteria. So now I care even less. Miss America is expected to conduct herself like a role model; Miss USA is not. What is the big deal here? Didn't we already cover the "female celebrity behaving like a skank" topic well enough with Paris Hilton?

The only thing I know about her is that she knocks about with Britney Spears and we have almost daily photo's of them drunk, legs apart, exposing their knickers (or lack of, in Ms Spears case ) whilst getting in and out of cars.

I originally heard this as "eating an apple through a chain-link fence" but the concept is the same. And EITHER ONE makes me shiver to think of it.

For a while, the televised national pageants were a big deal because in the 1950's, we were still big on "family entertainment" and the networks would assure that they carried it just to appease Mrs. Grundy, the neighborhood self-appointed Morals Examiner.

Ever since the nearly literal explosion of cable TV channels, we can find something more appealing to individual tastes and poor old Mrs. Grundy hasn't figured out how to thwart our desire for lewd, lascivious behavior. As a side effect, the popularity of such pageants is waning. Too much competition for the advertising dollar.

KalelGmoon pretty much covered it. Her family is super rich, so they got her and her also-super-rich best friend to star in a "reality" show where the two went around doing things that were completely foreign to them. Like... work. And think.

Apparently the show actually got decent ratings (for the love of God don't ask me to explain why, beacuse I can't) and from there she went on to other things, none of which were particularly successful. Or even noticed, really. I mean, when people go see the horror film you're starring in just so they can cheer when you are brutally murdered, that's not exactly the sign of an adoring public.

Not really. But when one is confronted in the newspaper with a picture of two young ladies exposing vast amounts of flesh, one does tend to glance at it. I think we've seen every part of Ms Spears and Ms Hiltons anatomy now.
