I'd like to use a command button to open a table and auto paste what ius on the clip board.

My routine is that I have an Excel data table.
I open the Excel file
Select all and copy then open my Access table and paste it into that table.

I could do with an automation to open my access database and press a button to auto enter the data.

Alternatively I would like to press a command button to choose which file I wish to import then on close it auto imports the data.

you can connect the excel file as a table,
show the excel data in a form, select the record,
click 'copy' button which does both, copy and paste (append) the data where you want.

does this effect work for you?

My colleague receives the same generic file everyday via email. The save it as a date (310117) into a folder,

I then need to be able to import this into the Access database in the most simplistic way.

One way is to open it in Excel select all then open Access and paste it into a new table.

I would prefer that I was able to open Access and press a command button that allows me to select the file I wish to import then does so.

Hope I've made it clearer?

simpler than that.
save the excel file to your file archive
and save as the excel file to the same name everytime, c:\file2import.xls

in access, click the import macro. done.

prep:
the file, c:\file2import.xls, is linked in as a table.
you overwrite it with new data everytime
then you click the import button, this runs the append query.
no copy, no paste.
