Looks as if I may be looking for an alternative employment opportunity sometime soon.

Not certain but appears to be a distinct possibility so if anyone out there is looking for a pretty good (my opinion) Access Developer within reasonable distance of North Coventry then I may be available.

Okay so I am getting on a bit (a young 60) so would be looking for say 18 months fulltime, then maybe another 12 months or so part time.

Would also consider part time straight away.

If anybody interested then I would be pleased to hear from you.

I can accross a agency - that offered contract work for Programmers (i am in kent) and this i would have recommend to my employer - but he's a dick and could not see the value -

try interenet for this - also try whitespace in London

they do a lot stuff for lloyds underwriters with their schemes and what they are using is blinking brill - I know you would not want to be doing the london trip - but as a contractor -

How far away are you from B'ham - should be able to get some short terms contracts there - I (and many more ) value the grey brigade -being a mear whipersnapper of 39 - shit loads of experience

Best of luck in your search Len but it is a funny old world.

in 1992 the firm I worked for decided everybody over 50 was too old to learn new things and retired us , in my case it coincided with my wife's diagnosis of cancer, probable 5 years, happily she is still bullying me, but I didn't look for a serious job but spent 13 years working partime for a chrity, it didn't pay well but kept me out of mischieve.

Howver a mate went to work for a large bank and 10 years later at the age of 60 he was retired again, he went to an agency looking for work as an IMS Systems programmer, the only firm looking for such people was ..... The Bank!!!, they wouldn't take him as he was too old, but here is the punch line, the only IMS Systems programmers on the agency books were, of course you've guessed, all over 60.

Best of luck.

Hi Brian

Glad your still getting bullied.

Yup age is a thing as well.

Retirement is an option but I really do not feel ready for that.

I could retire but I do enjoy working...sad isn't it but there you are.

Salary is useful but I am much more looking for the interest and challenge. like you I need to be kept out of mischief.

Maybe there should be a Saga Agency. Specialising in the old buggers who have so much knowledge and experience they are actually worth their weight in gold to the enlightened

We will see..Not getting in a tangle about it. Maybe the missus will get used to me being around a lot more.

We are only just starting up so can't offer anything at the moment but if ya send me your details I'll keep ya on my records.

One firm I am involved with is a telecoms company who are starting an upgrade to all there systems including Access, MYSQL syncs. but it's early days yet and based in Thanet but working remote may be an option.

I'm sure you could teach me one hell of a lot and I'm 43 ish

Best wishes and good luck

Isn't it nice - - no slagging off of people - just friendly advice

Something will turn up, Should it all go tits up, and retirement is the option , Please don't stop - change take up a hobbie , but don't stop the stats for those who stop working and do nothing , don't last much longer than 2-3 years

so if the work is not an option , get involved with something else polictics, - take up an active hobbie - (not too active)- keepthe brain cells going -
how about a bit of teaching - you shitloads of knowledge - share it

talk tot he recruitment companies - and see if they would pay to to teach - these are just ideas- anyway - all the best

Mick have attached CV That was a very good offer from you. Much appreciated.

rak. Again what an astonishing response. SAP not on the cv

gary Have no intention of letting the brain go stale. retirement could be the opportunity for me to finsh the B.Sc from Open University to go with the M.Sc. Maybe an odd way around but then why follow the crowd

and Rich

B & Q do employ the elderly I am told but hate Engineers cos they take everything apart whilst explaining the shortcomings to customers !!!

Feel greatly cheered by you guys

Len,

Looks to me that you've considerable knowledge in the field of FMECA.
Why not go in the direction of consultance in that area with bigger UK companies. Once there,
you might utelize your access knowledge to support/map the field results on observed
commodity defects and stuff.
So instead of focussing on Acces, why not focus on FMECA project consultancy.
My brother is doing sort of the same thing in South Africa and is quite
succesfull , even where he lacks your sound knowledge with Access.
Relevant commodities may be airplane industry, gasturbines, generator sets, etc.
