Replication - General advice

I have been asked to investigate replication of SQL Server 2000. We are looking to replicate our SQL Server 2000 DB for both

• a disaster recovery remote site backup (probably using transactional replication)
• access to the DB on a separate network without a continuous connection (probably using merge replication)

I have found a number of articles describing the theory behind the different replication facilities of SQL server 2000 but was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some more practical information about how you actually go about implementing the replication, particularly implementing both types of replication to different subscribers but with the same distributor?

Any and all help would be gratefully appreciated.
