searching a DAP (1 Viewer)

does anyone know how to search for a particular record in a DAP using a text field.I can make it happily find the right record or records when searching a numerical field but get an error message"no value provided for one or more parameters" when searching through a text field.I have tried making the text field a primary key and still no joy

(yes i know DAP are rubbish but i work in a government department and am stuck with them for the moment!)

any help would be greatly appreciated
