I had the exact opposite happen with a chatbot for hbo max the other day. problem solved in 5 minutes, and it was actually a pretty complicated one that I had no answer to! sorry for your experience doc. =(

We got the part the next day (obviously, overnight shipping) and installed it the next day. Got it up and running, so it was a good end result. But their AI had a pretty low IQ in my estimation. OR worse, it was NOT really AI but just a tangle of page links with some type of keyword extractor that looked at your answer for words it knew. Unlike David's response, the AT&T AI did not appear to understand or respond to unkind language.

But thanks for the thought, Adam.

Just as a side note, the AT&T maze did not appear to understand the word "Person"

I went through a stage of swearing at the llm .. and I've got an excellent working man's vocabulary!

But here's the thing, it always comes back apologetic and nice and cuddly if you like!

This niceness has sort of rubbed on off on me, now I might raise my voice at it so to speak but I don't go in for much swearing!

And if I do swear a bit, I usually apologize afterwards, and I can't understand why!

I don't actually swear 'at' the phone - just calmly speak expletives that it can't parse as answers to its inane questions so that it connects me to a human operator.

(I guess you're talking about ChatGPT and the like, rather than the far less sophisticated phonebot bollox you get instead of an old-fashioned operator.)

I'm always super nice to chat GPT because I have this fear that if I'm not it will start giving me crappy answers. Now THAT'S being phobic, an irrational fear LOL

Given that sometimes getting a decent answer out of Chattie is like pulling hen's teeth, how could you be sure you WEREN'T getting crappy answers anyway? Uncle G has published some lengthy dialogs where he has to go back and criticize the answer four or five times.

2027...

AI: "Getting a decent answer out of a human is like pulling hen's teeth."

I now have the image in mind of being strapped into a dentist chair with a robotic arm controlled by the "supreme" AI extracting a tooth!

I can't be sure, but since I often ask it things I already know a lot about, I can evaluate what mood it's in ... some days.

Yes, I've also published my first ever try at ChatGPT - where I asked it what is wrong with this code? 6 lines of VBA code, where I declared a variable as INT and then looped, incrementing it once each loop, with the loop running far more times than the INT date range. It had no idea what was wrong with the code, I would have expected any beginner to spot it.

I personally don't use it for coding, or haven't yet - and when I do, I'm going to be awfully careful, researching out each piece of its answer myself to verify it makes sense. "never use code you don't personally understand" is my motto, anyway.

I don't think the free version of ChatGPT is going to be the go to for IT admins for coding. I think it will be a paid version of Copilot or a similar product embedded within something like Visual Studio Code, just a guess.
