some systems hang (1 Viewer)

I have a front-end mdb file which exhibits a strange pattern when operating on some systems.

Developer system is Office 2002; Access is set to save in 2000 format. The mdb file works on the home system, and others have also used the file without troubles on windows XP and 98 systems, XP and 2000 Office versions.

Meanwhile, on two machines the systems hangs. At first the file would hang while loading a splash screen which establishes the user name etc. After some tweaking, the system will now load, but one of my main screens refuses to close down! This only happens on these two machines.

Any suggestions on where to start digging?

What "tweaking" made the splash screen work?
Is it accessing the BE when it hangs?
Have you tried reinstalling Office?
Is there enough memory/disk space on the those clients?
Are they on a WAN or LAN?
