Just a quick and simple question, what is the maximum length of a report i can go to. (Im using access 2000)

At the moment it looks like i can go up to 55cm at the most, so to get around this problem im having to create several sub reports, than run into one another.

Is there an easier way to create a longer report i.e one which is 10 a4 pages long, instead of 3 or 4 pages

Basically a report can be as long as the needs of the data. In design view I have areprt that looks about A$ but extends to about 80 pages depending upon the data selection.

Fieldss can be set to autoexpand as can a sub report.

Grouping is an option that can also be used.

Depends exactly on what you want to produce. Maybe there is only a little data and then the report will be short. Basically same data set but with more text will make the report longer although in design view it is exactly the same

I think the thing you are missing is how to use the Detail band. The detail band of a report will increase as needed to for the amount of records in the report. lets say you have a standard US letter size which is 11" high. You have a 1" top and bottom margins which leave 9". you have a .5" footer and a 1" Page header which leaves 7.5". You have a .25" Detail band and 120 records in the report. The 7.5" gives you 30 records per page so the report should take 4 pages. If you have 240 records it would take 8 pages.

Thanx

Thanks for the help, i understand that a report will print out serveral pages dependent on the number of records it needs to print to the report template.

I work for a Architectural firm, where all our jobs are added to the database, from here we generate quotes to send out to client.

These quotations just list our cost to do the job, a brief description what services are included in the cost and then a "Terms and conditions" section at the end, which contains all the clauses that binds them to the contract if they accept the quotation. Basically the quotation is about 4 A4 pages long and the "Terms and Conditions" is about 7 A4 pages long. We only print out one record at a time, so the total report size for one record is 11 pages.

I only seem to be able to get 4 template pages to the report. therefore i have to subreport the rest.

I will try what u said, and hope that works, thanx for your help

Are you putting the Terms and conditions in a Group or report footer?

in a report footer, well actually the first section, that being the quotation section, takes up the initial 2 pages of report allowed, ie the first 54cm and then the last 2 of the quotation i have had to put in the footer, then right at the bottom of the footer i have placed the sub report of the terms and conditions. using another 3 sub reports to generate the 7 pages of the terms and conditions.

sorry for the naff description, im not very good at explaining myself. I feel that im doing somethink wrong.

there may be some limits on report footers. but not sure what else to tell you
