In the video Jordan Peterson discusses the idea from the Bible that The meek shall inherit the earth.

He said our modern day interpretation of "meek" is different from the original meaning which meant those who have swords, and know how to use them, but keep them sheathed will inherit the earth.....

And the modern day phrase is as you say Richard, speak softly but carry a big stick!!!
