For me, this makes me wonder why only the Excel team is building something like this and not creating a general COM replacement for Office.
Is the idea of the “Office architect” that you should use the Excel function in Access/VBA? Or should you create a separate COM dll for Access?

Similar to the recent 'What tools do you use for frontend development?' thread but more concerned with the nitty gritty of actually writing/developing the code itself. What non-Access items do people use when creating databases that the can't do without? (I'm ignoring other MS Office apps)...
