I was amused by the idea of putting the chip in my dog's brain and having the dog talk to me like Dug in the film "UP"

Having the dog talk? There is a post-apocalyptic film "A Boy and His Dog" in which dogs have become telepathic and talk to their companions. The movie version (1975) starred Don Johnson and his dog was named Blood. It was a fun little movie, kind of depressing in some ways because of the post-apocalyptic theme being inherently depressing. But my biggest complaint was that the dog got all of the really good lines. Maybe Don Johnson wasn't the best actor in the world at the time, but that was an early form of "speciesism." BTW the original short story was written by Harlan Ellison. The rumor is that his 3rd (or was it his 4th) wife complained that he never wrote love stories - so he wrote a story about the bond between a boy and his dog. But if you read the story, you understand why she divorced him.
