I just finished THE GREAT DIVORCE by CS Lewis.

My favorite quote is "there are only two kinds of people in the world: those who say to God,'Thy will be done', and those to whom God says in the end ,'thy will be done'.

There are only two kinds of people in the world: Those who believe in dichotomies and those who don't.

😁

There Are 10 Types of People In This World.
Those Who Understand Binary and Those Who Don't.
There are two types of people in this world. Those who can extrapolate from incomplete sentences

I have to ponder that for a while. I always thought the nicest thing anyone could do for, for example, Haiti, is to generously take it over.

Haiti has been plagued by evil dictators for decades. I remember when Papa Doc took over. I was just a kid. Haiti was once a beautiful, successful country but is now truly a s***hole. Not sure they'd know how to live with a benign administration. They are the epitome of what evil can do. Just look at the DR which occupies the other half of Hispaniola. All that money the Clinton foundation collected "for Haiti" to rebuild houses never got there and 10+ years on, the people are still living in ramshackle shacks. But the Clintons live very well:(

The Clinton's are brutal when it comes to 💰 laundering. I have to be careful, I don't want to get whacked.

Regarding the C.S. Lewis quote "Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive."

Thinking back to the American Revolution, we got rid of the tyranny and did pretty well for a while. Thinking in more current terms, the "deep state" probably earnestly thinks it is doing good for the people with all the regulations and rules they formulated without going through Congress - except that the voters seem to have repudiated that sentiment. Considering the misery of many people who are victims of the "We are from the government and we are here to help you" syndrome, including those trapped in a cycle of external dependency on a government that can't keep up with their needs, I would say that the quote is still being proved / demonstrated even now.

That's the plan the progressives have for us. We're too stupid to make our own decisions so they'll make them for us.

I see more what you mean

Have enjoyed this thread although my taste in quotes/sayings/aphorisms is humourous rather than 'deep'

'What is this wasn't a rhetorical question?'

Or the Tom Lehrerism

'Life is like a sewer: what you get out of it depends on what you put into it'
