Hi,I have a db created in 2007, but my users have now upgraded to 2010. The db works fine mostly, but I am puzzled:

When I open the db in 2010, at the top in parentheses it says "Access 2007". Fine, I thought it was just warning me that it was still in 2007 format and maybe I should consider converting. But I can't find any way to do that. In fact, under options, where I can set the default format for a new, blank database, 2010 isn't even an option!

The reason I started looking into this is that I can't run compact/repair on this database from 2010. I get error "you need full permissions in the directory...". Buf I have confirmed that I can create and delete files in the directory, so what gives?

seems to indicate that it's a problem with running a 2007 db in 2010. So how do I convert? Or, any other guesses as to what the problem might be?

Regarding the "(Access 2007)" you see on the titlebar - that's expected whenever you have an ACCDB file format and you didn't give an custom application title.

As you may have noticed, there is actually no such thing as 2010 file format. You still use 2007 file format in 2010 but here's a rub - when you add any new features from 2010 into the 2007 file, the Access 2007 (application) may be not able to either open the file or at least not open the form/report that has the new 2010 features embedded.

Overall, it's pretty confusing and ergo I've recommended that when you have a choice between 2007 or 2010, you must choose one or other and make a clean break. Don't try and support both 2007 and 2010 since there's no easy way of keeping 2010 features out from 2007 file format.

Luke Chung has one case where 2010 feature gets added to 2007 file and thus is unopenable in 2007: Link

That isn't same problem you're describing, though but at least hopefully it explains the why behind the "Access 2007" you're seeing.

One thought to try - what if you compacted via the commandline? Does that work? That may give you a hint to where the problem is.
