When I add a button to a form, I used to get buttons with nice rounded corners. Now I get buttons that are just plain rectangles. What has happened? Is there somewhere that I can change the format of the buttons?

It has to do with Themes on Access or Themes in Control Panel.

First, Themes on Access: Go to Access Options > click Current Database > look for Use Windows-Themed Controls on Forms and ensure that it's ticked.

Next, go to the property sheet for the button and check the Use Themes property.

It is also possible that you've changed the Default Button to stop using Themes.

Thank you, that is most helpful. However, the 'Use Windows themed controls on forms' is checked, and on the button itself, 'Use Themes' is checked. But I still have plain rectangular buttons. Is there anywhere else that I can check?

Have you selected a button shape?

In Design View select the button > go to Format tab on the ribbon > look for Change Shape > select an appropriate shape

Also try selecting a Theme.

You're welcome!

There's just one more thing to do to completely solve the problem, change the default button so that anytime you drop a button it will be rounded.

So here's what you do:
1. Do not select any control on your form and click the Design Tab > and select Button
2. Repeat the steps from my last post, i.e. go to Format tab on the ribbon > look for Change Shape > select an appropriate shape
3. Now click anywhere inside your form, just a click don't draw, and your default button will be set.

Test it to make sure that all newly drawn buttons now have the rounded edges.
