Children - sensitive little dears or just normal

Ideally, this is a great thing. I think it's quite assinine that we are taught to be offended by certain words. All it does is reinforce artificial social stigmas. But unfortunately it's a double-edged sword: if you teach kids not to say offensive words, they then learn that they are offensive and use them accordingly.
Oh, kids will makeup offensive words on their own, lacking ones given to them. Example, When I was in 5th-7th grade in a small (Pop 365, but school was the whole county) town we didn't really have offensive words. There was this istatution that contained mentally ill (we of course only new retarded) and it was the The Wajamika Instatute (I don't know the real spelling, I am going phonetic here) or something like that. So we developed the word Wajamika to refer to someone as a retard in an offensive manner. YOU WAJAMIKA!

 The mind boggles.

Well, lets see.
Kids in school yards can no longer chose up sides using:
Enny, meeny because the blacks would get upset.
Can't change the offending word to tiger because the Indians would get upset.
Can't use 1 potatoe, 2 potatoe because the Irish will get upset.
Can't toss a coin because that means I have money and you don't.
Can't toss the bat (American method) because its an offensive weapon.
Can't play chess instead because of black/white stereotyping.

This political correctness is a lot tougher than I thought.
