Database appearance

We still love you, Debased.

While not anything exciting, I figure I may as well post a screenshot or two of my database.

It is not very complex as far as number of elements, so the navigation is very simple. It is also for corporate use and is therefore not flashy (ie., I have no need to get creative with interface), but I think it looks sophisticated. Opinions?

This might also help you to find a few ideas -

User Interface Designs...

Christ , have I got to learn how to be a graphics designer as well now ? Access is difficult enough by itself .

Nah, just put a little thought into it. Are you designing for your company? Just use the color scheme from the logo. Are you designing for a particular industry? Add some graphics assocaited with that industry. Functional graphics are a great way to spice things up...

...as long as they don't become the focus. If a bell or whistle doesn't serve a purpose, get rid of it. That's one of my design rules.

I would be honoured if someone thought my db work was worth the effort and used my work themselves. But alas my design skills could realistically be described as undeveloped. Maybe one day when my skills bloom (that's a good one) I will be able to contribute as many of you have and continue to help me. My closing comment on this subject is thank you to all who contribute your time & knowledge here.

The idea itself.

No. I am Anthony Sinatra, and i care if my time and effort directed into something becomes someone elses "creativity". What i mean is i'd like people to think for themselves (ask for ideas about single items).

It's not like he using your code.

So your telling me you don't use anyone elses buttons, styles, themes, icons or anything else in your programs or databases. I highly doubt it.

Hootie -

For ideas on interface design you need to go to UtterAccess.com (hope its ok to post this Jon! If not I'll delete) Here is a link to the site (LINK) Look in the forum index for the forum "User Interface Designs". I have posted many of my designs here for feedback as the forum members post work/screenshots and ask other members for feedback on their designs. Has LOTS and LOTS of examples of Access Interfaces. Note* To be able to open the attachments you have to be a member but the membership is free so its a no-brainer (also have a code archieve similar to the one here that has been around for a while so its full of goodies)

A.Sinatra - FYI - starting out I went to the above described forum for hints/tips/examples of interfaces and incorporated ideas into my apps - THEN - After I used/tweaked/created new interfaces I posted them to THE SAME FORUM for feedback and to help others get the creative juices flowing... its whats called a COMMUNITY! Try participating...

HTH Hootie (If you want to see examples of my stuff here you can search for my name as I posted some stuff here as well & if you want more info let me know and I'd be glad to put up examples for you...)

I'm rather surprised that NONE of you gave what I consider to be THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT ANSWER to the question that started this thread.

Q. Does your employer have a style guide or sample publications that show the "official" corporate logo, watermarks, backgrounds, etc. If you don't base your design on that publication style guide, you are probably off base.

Anything you do after that depends on the nature of the app itself.

Thats Access 2003 - much more flexible with interface designs (more so then any previous version of MS Access IMO) Also - it doesn't hurt to be accomplished in Photoshop either :p

I do Love the round buttons though - much better then the plain square ones...

It has a pointless clock.
Pointless clocks need love too.

And round buttons are pretty easy to do in any version as far as I know. All you need is a picture of a round button and a picture of the button when pressed. Set the two pictures on top of each other, set the pressed button to invisible. Then use the mouse up and mouse down events to hide and unhide the two buttons, respectively. Presto! You can use this technique to make any kind of custom button.

Sorry I thought this forum was about helping people and not putting people down because they don't live up to your own self inflated ego

I'm amazed. I do not wear a watch and I am very punctual. The clocks on a database form is just completely pointless as the Windows System Tray already has the Time - why waste the system's time refreshing a value on a form when Windows is already displaying the time?
