I am hopeless at this!!

I am trying to get my head around why my form is not the same as the one from a template. I am just trying to copy it to practice how Access works.

The template one shows as a datasheet, but the layout view looks just like mine. See attached images.

Maybe there is something to do with the properties and how I drag the field on to the form?

It looks like the default view is set to datasheet. Open the form in design view, then go to the property sheet-->Format tab-->Default View and change it to Single Form view.

Thanks jzwp22, however I just checked this and it is already set to 'Singe Form' ?

In the image MyFormView.jpg it looks like you have the standard form view but you also have a subform based on the same table. That subform looks to be in datasheet view. I would just get rid of the subform (you should be able to see it in design view as a separate object). I'm not sure why that would even be there unless something is strange with your relationships.

If you want, you can zip and post a copy of the database for us to look at? Please make sure to remove any sensitive information.

Thanks. Attached is my DB. It really is just a practice thing with no sensitive information in at all.

I want to make the form view of frmClientMaintain the same sort of datasheet view in the body as the attached image in the previoyus post (TemplateForm view).

I need to know what I am doing wrong more than anything so that i can see where I am going wrong rather than you just doing it for me, and I immensly appreciate your help.

Thanks

My apologies, I misinterpreted your initial post, I thought you wanted the single form view. Looking at your frmClientMaintain, the default view was set to split form which I think is the what you need (I have not used a split form before since I think it is new in Access 2010). I think if you drag the lower half up, it should mimic the TemplateForm view image you mentioned. The only problem I see is that the form controls in the split form are in a different order than the single form. Just dragging and dropping the controls in the lower split section while in Layout view seems to do the trick. It did not work like that in design view--curious.

The other thing I noticed is that you have lookups (combo/list boxes) in your tables. Although Access has this capability, it can cause a series of problems as listed on this site. So, you may want to consider making that change, but of course that will impact all of the forms as well. Combo and list boxes are fine when they are used on the form level.

Wow ok, i think I'll need sometime to digest this and give it another try, there is so much functionality in access i think it can be rather daunting maybe that's why most people just use spreadsheets. Thanks for the headsup re lookup fields as well I will replace these with the necessary table relationships.

Fair enough; please post back with questions.

I have seen how to go about this now and it makes sense using a split form with a datasheet at the bottom. One more query though.

I keep getting a white band across the top of the form divider line (see attached). I have tried everything to try to get rid of this. I know it is possible because the 'Contacts' template on my machine from Microsoft doesn't have it in the same split form view. Any ideas how to make this non-visible please?

I'm not usre what the split form is trying to achieve. What you are attempting to very similar to continuous form but with the McGovern et al in the Header. All the split form is going is presenting the clients in a Continous Form format.

I have'nt used Split Forms, but really I can not see that these type of Forms do anything we could do when they weren't available.

Unfortunately, I could not find any way to get rid of the white band. I assume that there is a way, but I had no luck. Sorry.
