Recently converted a number of Access 97 db's into Access 2003.

On opening the ldb file in Notepad, we can no longer see who is on the database as we could in the ealier 97 version.

It now contains a number of squares, numbers and crosses which when pasted elsewhere change some to chinese characters?

Also the Access 2003 db seems much bigger than the equivalent 97 and runs slower to!

click the right mouse button and go Properties>Security>Advanced>Owner

and it will tell you who created the file

N.B. this may not necessarily be the person in the database

I've seen this when you don't use Access buikt in security. Could that be the reason?

Excuse my ignorance!

When I try opening it with Wordpad, it comes up with "lbd file in use by another application and cannot be accessed".

Your comment about mdb size between 97 and higher is due to the fact that access was migrated from 32 to 64 bit technology. However you can still have a 2003 front end with a 97 back end.
