What was the first car or memorable car you had. Please give us the year, make and model and some details.

I collect toy cars (1/18 scale). I have collected a lot of 1950's Ameriacn cars (toys). They are beautiful cars with lots of chrome all around. Gone are those days! I attend antique car shows in the summer. I am car crazy.

My memorable car was a 1975 Oldsmobile Delta 88. The ride was fantastic. I have good memories of it.

1965 Ford Galaxy 500 LTD - was Fire Red with White vinyl top and was in pristine condition. There was only about 25,000 miles on it (in 1978) and had factory air conditioning.

I got it for $500 from a lady who's husband had passed away and my dad was her insurance agent. She didn't want to take more than that from us, so we got a steal.

Unfortunately about 2 months later, a driver (drunk) tried to make it between me and another car while I was at a light (he was going about 80 miles per hour in a 30 mile an hour zone) and he missed the other car but totaled mine.

I wound up with a settlement of double what I paid for it, but I couldn't find a car anywhere near as good condition for $1000. So, instead of a really cool, good looking car, I wound up with a baby blue ugly station wagon. :(

1970 Porsche 914-6. Power to spare, handled like it was on rails. Never should have sold that car, but a new wife plus new baby at the time dictated otherwise. That baby girl is now 22, and she loves the 50's era Chevy Bel Air. There's a big event here every year (Hot August Nights) with thousands of cars from that era all around town.

A 1974 Chevy Nova, bought it for 400 dollars when I was 16. 10 days after I bought it I was out screwing around with my brother and ran it into a telephone pole. spent another 450 dollars fixing it. she lasted for 3 yrs until I went iunto the army and my brother inherited it. poor thing never stood a chance.

I learned to drive in a 1964 Galaxy, my mom had it, she got it from her parents. that was a great car, but the 3 in a tree trannie would catch sometimes and you had to get out and under the hood to get it to unlock. had that happen a few times at busy intersections, people behind me were not happy, especiallyw hen you are in the only turn lane for that intersection:D

1983 chevy celebrity Eurosport<- (note. it was a sport!!.. looked more like a fancy box)Rust red.. no rust on it.. that was the color. This baby stalled around corners, and any type of bump. She had a passanger seat that i could unlatch and who ever was riding with me would slam the dashboard when i hit the breaks.. priceless..

i miss her :(

why not post a picture, these cars mean nothing in the UK. Or is it the Americans assuming we all know what these gas guzzlers look like.

My favorite car was an 1984 Chrysler New Yorker, quartz grey, leather interior, power seats, electronic instrument console, plush everything.

Lost it when a Coca-Cola delivery truck lost traction on an interstate highway. (The kind of truck that has rolldown side panels on either side, maybe six or eight such panels per side.) His rear bumper smacked the rear left corner of the car, scraped along the length of the car, knocked my front bumper partly off, and ended up with his headlights facing traffic. My car was totalled because the initial point of impact became a dent not less than two feet deep from the rear and 18 inches from the side. I walked away with a mild neck soreness for a couple of days.

The car was old enough that I couldn't collect too much - the blue book value was what they gave me plus a few bucks towards a prescription and a doctor's visit. Cheap no-good @&%*#!!^$@#%s

That was possibly the most comfortable car I've ever driven for short, medium, or long trips. I'm on the second car after that one and I still miss it.

You could have simply asked, without the usual anti-American drivel.

and what is anti-american about this?

It simply means we don't get most of these cars here so have no idea what you're talking about - its simple courtesy to post a helpful pic without putting the readers to too much trouble and searching for a pic.

i had an old datsum cherry
small pokey little car top speed (wind assisted)90mph
I had hte choice of either lights , windscreen wipers or the radio (could only have 1)
Held together with Gaffa tape (industrial type parcel tape??)
and a screw drive for the indicator level
brakes were optional ( occassionaly they worked)
only one door opened - suspension iffy

but the memories of this car were brill - L blew the engine up in the end try to do 95 uphill racing a porche (?) might of beat it if it hadn't of gone bang
i was young foolish, now just old and foolish

our current fave car is our 1962 rambler american 4 door coupe which replaced our 1963 rambler classic wagon which complimented our 1966 rambler sedan and 1966 rambler marlin... had to sell the latter 2 because a 327 v8 4 barrel carby sorta guzzles the fuel at a rather alarming rate...

you will probably notice a trend there...

My first car and fave car was a1963 Ford Anglia 105E

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Anglia#Anglia_105E

Why? because the handling was naff but entirely predicatable meaning that one could have fun scaring the daylights out of passengers as the backend tramped around, 'tho' I nearly wrote it off when a hump in the road which I used to lift the back over a few feet was smoothed :D

Also I wooed my Wife in that car, nuff said.

I think this is the right model, it is under a cover all the time
