The memorable car you had

Rexes, I had about a 1973 Pinto Wagon. Lots of fun memories on that little beast, too. Not as comfortable as the New Yorker, but I could get three half-kegs of beer on ice in the back at one time. (Learned this fact by experiment.) It was the first car I ever bought on my own. Before that, I was in Mom & Dad hand-me-downs.

Lost the Pinto Wagon to a dump truck when the driver decided to run a red light. He got a ticket. I sold the remains of the car & got a Pontiac Grand Prix. I liked that car but it overheated too much. Whereas I've never had a Chrysler product overheat. Several have had electrical issues, none have had radiator issues.

Memories? whats memorable about some old wreck of a car. Col

The lack of a heater that worked, brakes that didn't work, filler that kept dropping out, radiators that needed regular filling with eggs and porridge, ah the good ol' days:D

That pretty much sums up the lack of design of English cars. :p
No wonder that Rover got bancrupt. :o

I was thinking of the Renaults and Citroens that I've owned over the years:p
but in particular the Fords!:p

I have to say, I've owned 2 or 3 Clio's and they're brill.

I've got a Ford Mondeo now, also very functional and comfortable

I had a couple of Renaults meself, but did not face any major problems. Besides, the Renault 4 was easy and cheap to repair and in the seventies,
there were lots of shops for second hand/used spare parts in NL.
Probably the cheapest car I've ever had.
On Ford, I agree. Had a Ford Sierra in 1980's , but that one failed on almost everything. So, after 4 months of agony, I sold it and bought a Volvo 360.

Well the good thing about Fords is that there are plenty of spares available from the scrapyards. I always found Volvos heavy on juice:mad:

This is our 2nd Mondeo, I think they're ok. Mine's a 52 plate, done 50,000 miles.

What's a 52 plate ? Special liscence or is that car from 1952 ?

Ignore Rich's attempt at wry humour:rolleyes: a 52 [registration] plate is the wierd way the UK registers cars. Broadly speaking it means it was registered in 2002. The registration has 2 letters, 2 numbers then 3 random letters, like this

AJ52 ABC

The first 2 letters indicate the area it was registered (A = East Anglia area of the UK - where I live)

Agree, but they have that safety imago since the 50's. From the 360 I changed to the 440 type, changed to Honda and now I'm back with Volvo.
Currently I'm driving a S60 2.5T ( petrol) and I'm doing an average of 8.4 ltr/100 km. Not bad in view of the 1450 kg weight.

You'll have to convert that to gallons per mile for the Americans, and me!

Guess Rich attempt was to put focus on a '52 Bedford , ain't it ? :D

OK, make sense. So a 57 plate is registered in 2007 ?

Broadly speaking, yes. There is a further complication but I won't go into that unless you really want me to confuse you. ;) Remember the British will complicate things if its at all possible:rolleyes:

I think Rich's picture was of a 1952 Ford Consul if memory serves me right - it was the Ford Sierra of its day. Bedford didn't make cars, only vans and lorries.
