The memorable car you had

Rich did you see that item on the news saying that the production of paladium the material for catalytic converters has destroyed an area in northern Russia the size of Germany?

As I said earlier the arguments on the environment are not simple.

Brian

Yes but even so the consumption of the vast amounts of "gas" these Yankee cars consume makes one want to press home the arguments for fuel efficiency, and this is possible with smaller engined cars. It could one small step for America and one giant leap for mankind;)

As I said earlier the arguments on the environment are not simple.

If anyone's interested, this in an interesting piece done by a British TV station that contradicts a lot of global warming arguments. It may not be the "final answer" either, but as you've noted the subject is not so simple as it may at first appear. Warning, it is long (understandable, as it was a TV documentary):

Fuel efficiency should be aimed for but it is only one part of the argument, the batteries of hybrid cars are , apparently, an environmental nightmare to dispose of. The owner of a Lincoln Town Car in Buena Vista said that it had "only" done 175,000 miles, so lets say it was good for 500,000, 5 Fiat Puntos, I wonder which is environmentally better?

There are many European models with similar mileage claims, especially the diesel ones

back on track.....

i've only had two cars, a half decent old vauxhall astra and then a nice old beemer -

wiki link

the beemer was a 1989 325i automatic - an absolute gem to drive, although i would have preffered a manual. the only manual i saw when looking to buy was rust bitten in the wrong places....

the beemer was a bit thirsty for petrol though....it could be efficient but not when you used a heavy right foot.

of course, now i have realised that two wheels are the way forward....a much much better form of transport to cars:cool:

Faster way to the grave too!

Faster way to the grave too!

perhaps - but it will only be due to either misfortune (e.g. an idiot car driver) or a mistake by me or more likely a combination of them both.

the pleasure is worth the risk for me:D i can imagine that i would feel differently if i had any dependents though

It's just too bad that Col never has anything pleasant to say any longer. I think more and more people will be putting him on ignore. :(

Cindy - you missed my post yesterday where I said the USA has produced the best music?

KennyBabe - I'm guessing you don't become qualified in anything then if you don't understand my comment:rolleyes: and obviously I'm not a doctor, but my job needed me to have more than a passing knowlege in healthcare

sweet. a euro tour is on my agenda but not yet...i don't think the sv would be too comfy on a trans-europe ride:eek: my next bike is either going to be a gsxr 750 or some sort of tourer - although the gsxr won't be much use on the touring front!

p.s. just heard rooney scored for man utd!!! 1-1 against roma, valuable away goal:D

My goal before i die is to see man u vs arsenal in person (or arsenal vs someone)haha

Yeah i was thinking more along the lines of someone else.. not your abilities!

unfortunately my abilities are still lacking:( i'm still on the steep learning curve and picking new stuff up all the time. i'm still making the odd mistake, although the scary mistakes have been absent the last couple of months.

i've been witness to some shocking car driving too though. some folk just aren't thinking when they are in the car.

To bad you don't strive for more than a passing knowledge of America. ;)

Edit - I see you're up at 4pm EST+... What's the problem can't sleep?

I did my first Euro tour with the BMW shop local to us. That way I learnt the ropes. Since then its been solo ever since - best way - nobody to dictate what you do, you just do and go where you want to.

That never changes sadly. I'm glad I did the advanced riding course.

Its a shame more Americans don't either.
