Well I'm out of ideas. All I can suggest is you follow the other posters suggestions ArnelGP and gasman and report what happens.

Do you have active record locking.
You shouldn't reach a situation where your users are unable to work at all, and the system freezes. The worst is that they get a message when they try to save, saying the saying the record has been changed by another user, and they can't save their change.
Maybe you can look at your process to see why two users are changing the same item, although that's a different issue.

Did you modify the lock settings? The setting should be left at the default which is "No Locks". Access is perfectly capable of managing contention.
You keep saying that the users are sharing the FE. The users should NEVER share the FE. Each user must have his own personal copy of the FE. There are several easy distribution methods. Post back if you need to know how.
