Will Joe Biden be the next president?

True @Jon - timing is huge on this. If I remember correctly, I think I've heard that early voters tend to mostly be firmly-minded voters, so, hopefully, the debates can still have an effect on undecided's, who are voting later, who mostly need to be impacted as a demographic.

I read today that polling which measured reactions to RNC speeches showed a significant "better" grade among independents given for Pence's speech. Better than other speeches. Trump's bet on law & order theme might be a better one than pundits have been thinking, if it can be articulated in an even handed manner with nothing offensive thrown in. And the more riots there are ... especially in cities like Kenosha, where people didn't think themselves to be a part of the [perceived] danger of bigger cities.......The more people are thinking "Gee, a few incidents when all this started seemed expected, but it just keeps going and getting worse...."

Look at Minnesota. It is a Democrat stronghold, but is currently neck and neck with Republicans. I think they are fed up with all the rioting.

I found this video very sickening:

All those businesses trashed. And who suffers? Those in the hood who are trashing their own environment.

What the BLM and Antifa types don't realize is that they will trigger a wave of STRONGER public demand for police presence. I wonder how long it will take them to wake up and feel the thorns that go with the roses they are trying to smell.

I agree with you Doc. But they believe their movement is a revolution, an attempt to overthrow the world order by coercion and force.

Exactly. As I've said before, political policies/movements are too often overly reactionary ... The pendulum has swung too far in "this" direction, they think, so now let's swing it....Way too far in the other direction. And after some amount of time, the "way too far" is realized, which just creates a knee-jerk back the other way.

Revolution often eats its own.
As the authoritarian-style "You Must Think/Believe This" progresses, it naturally becomes smaller & smaller. First a small group says "You must think this" and destroys any offender. Inevitably disagreement within the group leads the winner to declare "You Must Think This version of This" and destroys any offender. Theoretically, one person ends up at the top with the most narrow version of "this" possible (despite maybe having many now-obedient people on their side). The exact opposite of the goal of free speech/thought...But one which if framed carefully, could be disguised as if it were "the best idea coming to the top". Coercion and force being the big difference. Ideas that "win" by "bullying" are no ideas at all.

Ideas that "win" by "bullying" are no ideas at all.

Sadly, they ARE ideas. Not pleasant ones. Definitely ugly ones. But ideas nonetheless. And that's the problem. Ideas can spread faster than we can kill those who have them. (Sounds bloodthirsty, but it is effective for point of illustration.)

Well, I was just thinking in flowery terms, not dictionary precise ones. In the sense that, ideas that gain status through bullying aren't really in the category of ideas within the oft repeated free speech goal of, May the best ideas win. Since that is premised on the assumption that all of the speech leading to that point was free
But yeah....they're "somebody's" idea(s), a group who shrinks during pruning and later grows large through coercion and (re-)education.

I see enough things to make me shudder in my college kids' curriculums. And that's in Arizona, not Vermont! God help us if the day comes when education curriculums are largely determined by the feds. Oh wait...I think something like that already happened under Obama. I'll have to Google it tonight.

Politics is a very dirty business. Both sides will justify what they do, saying the means justify the ends.
Much as I dislike the Republicans, I think as a class (individuals in all groups do what they want to do so there are always exceptions), the Republicans are less inclined to win at all costs for the very simple reason that this is not a religion for them. They are not on a mission to "save the world" by remaking it in their own image. The good ones actually want positive change. It is only after they get elected that the power and money goes to their heads and corrupts them but they still do not have the religious fervor that the Democrats do.

Nancy Pelosi doesn't want Joe Biden to debate President Trump either. This could be a slam dunk.

I just saw Sleepy Joe say this: "This president is going to try to steal this election. This is the guy who said that all mail in ballets are fraudulent."

If Sleepy Joe has to lie about what Trump is saying, then it just goes to show he cannot argue his case based on the truth. He has to lie.

If you look at the previous 5 minutes of that video, you can see a litany of ridiculous fear-mongering from the fake news channels. I can't comprehend how anyone would believe this sort of drivel!

Edit: In case anyone is unclear on what I am getting at, let me clarify. Joe says Trump claims that *all* mail in ballets are fraudulent. Trump doesn't make that claim. He just states the truth, which is that the mail in ballet system is open to fraud, just like previous Democrat presidents have also stated.

I watched Don Lemon's show last night for the first time in a year. I'd forgotten how scary he is. It's a good thing no one bothers to fact check him because I stopped counting his lies after about 10 minutes. How could one person deliver so many lies with a straight face in so short a period of time? I felt slimed the venom he spewed was so bad. It was almost like watching the Democrats on cSpan "question" someone they don't like. He is far worse than Rachael Maddow who at least can be entertaining. She's who I usually watch after Trump gives a speech. It is amazing how unfailingly she could hear such a different speech than I heard. Do these people really not hear what Trump says or are they so warped that they think that everyone else is as duplicitous as they are and so since Trump can't possibly be telling the truth, he must be saying "this". "This" being whatever is the most deceitful, bigoted thing that comes into their mind (such as it is) at the time.

Funny you bring that up. I have to admit, Don Lemon is my absolute #1 "most ridiculous person in news", at least as far as well known people on TV on one side or the other(s). Just that crazy "I laugh at everything" smirk is a start - but dang, he's bad news, pun intended. Anderson Cooper runs a distant second...I say distant because Don is just so high up there.
Having said that I'll admit my knowledge of personalities is limited. While I diligently READ both Fox and CNN websites from top to bottom every day (and take some pride in that 'wanting to get both perspectives', which does teach me a thing or two every now and then) ... I confess when it comes to TV, I definitely avoid mainstream aka liberal stuff, because it's so much emotion and show. The written articles, on the other hand, give me a chance to detach from emotionalism and evaluate fact vs. opinion as much as I'm able. Therefore, I get most of my information fixes from reading vs. videos.

Using PBS as my channel for the Conventions wasn't too bad, I mean they were "less biased" than other big networks, at least. But I noticed the second night when an african american speaker's talk about what has actually been done for them got a little too compelling, they cut out quick. I then switched to Fox for the rest of the RNC, because they simply didn't cut out as much, and I mostly wanted to hear it straight from the horse's mouth. After all, I already know exactly what Don Lemon, Yamiche Alcindor and Sean Hannity think so don't need to hear a lot of it.

WE pay for PBS so that really aggravates me when their news is so biased. And I've actually stopped watching 60 Minutes which I've watched religiously for 50 years. Even American Greed which is usually at least interesting did an entire show on Manacort and the worst thing they could say about him is he bought expensive clothes. Not that he stole money to buy those clothes but that he "wore" them. I wonder if any of the deep state people who attempted the coup against Trump will warrant a show.

A UK Daily Mail article: Joe Biden's campaign unveils new ad blaming Donald Trump for empty sports stadiums and churches - after president used RNC speech to claim Democrats would 'surrender' to virus
Joe Biden's campaign blasted President Donald Trump for his handling of the coronavirus with a harsh new ad showing empty sports stadium, schools, and churches as 'The Star Spangled Banner' plays in the background.

The ad shows how the pandemic has affected Americans in their every day lives and hits at the heart of America with its focus on sports.

The ad features images of empty sports stadiums, an empty classroom, empty pews in a dark church, a long, soaring view of an empty beach, and highways with no cars as an acoustical version of the national anthem plays in the background.
That the Democrats would run such an ad seems incredulous. The Democrats contend that they "follow the science". Biden said that if the science required that the economy be shutdown again, he would do it. So how can the Democrats be blaming Trump for following the science and shutting down the economy?o_Oo_Oo_O

This ad proves that Democrats have nothing but contempt for the electorate.

Also, as a reminder, the Democrats when COVID-19 first appeared, were not talking care of the nation's business. The Democrats were consumed with frivolously impeaching Trump on false accusations and dismissed the virus as inconsequential. See Post#469 above were Karl Rove debunks Biden's claims.

isn't Biden the guy who couldn't remember his mother's name when asked by a news anchor during a live TV interview?

I now think Trump will win the election in November. Why? Look at the betting company odds. Their businesses live or die behind getting it right. Biden is still favourite, but just look at that trend!

Just listen to what liberals are saying, they are scared the riots are not working.

of course they are. but the problem is not the fact that a black man was killed by a cop. the problem is that congress people are scared shitless to lose their positions, just like everyone else in the world. it's that freakin simple. so the ONLY solution is to get the ignorant people to do for themselves. that is ALWAYS the only solution, because the need to make money will never end. sorry for the reality folks.
