I used to really enjoy watching the show and now I'm rather disillusioned about it. I still enjoy the performances, but if I didn't have TiVo to skip through all the junk (ie., pretty much any time Seacrest is on the screen) I'd never be able to take it.

But I do enjoy watching the singing, seeing what the judges say, predicting who will move on, etc.

My Top 3 are:

1 - Paris Bennett - she is some kind of prodigy or something. Sounds like she has been performing at the highest level for years, yet only seventeen. In a different league.

2 - Taylor Hicks - talented, genuine and above all lovin' it. At the moment the judges have failed to define him 'cos he is so original.

3 - Mandisa - natural stage presence and an awesome voice. Comes third because her style has been heard many times before.

Amazingly enough, I'm with Rich on this subject. I think reality shows are a bunch of crap, and contribute to the idiocy and ignorance of the human race. These shows are not based on "reality", or any possible definition of reality. There is a cast, therefore, the cast knows ahead of time what they are supposed to do, even if there is no real "script". Even the "make-a-fool-out-of-this-guy-without-him-knowing-it" types of shows are, again, cast. So the fool knows. That idiotic look of surprise on his face is all for show.

And really, do any of us need any more doses of reality than we already get from our own lives? And if our lives are so tedious that we get enjoyment from watching others squirm or be made fools of, how sad is that?

Hum... I wasn't sure about who they were by name so I had to google them. I'd say I agree except that I'd put the McPhee girl and the guy named Ace in there some where... The Bennett guy was the one that was funny...

Becky O' Donohue's the winner, I don't care if she can't sing

Now Rich are you forgetting this show is all about talent ?

Not in the least, she looks talented to me

I suppose the fact that she has a twin sister and they both posed for Maxim Magazine, together...has nothing to do with it...

I don't watch Idol, but she's got my vote:D :D ...her sister too!

I'm not sure we are using the same definition of talent?
No you're not being fair here, I'm sure she cares for poor children and wants to work for the UN childrens commission, free of charge.

As well as world peace??? I thought this was pop idol not Miss World!!!!!!!!

it used to be that i had to leave the room if a reality show was on. then the inevitable happened: i heard something i just had to see.

i think it started with one of the judges being incredibly rude. i had to see. i couldn't watch after that. then it happened again. but this time it was a voice. i had to see. then the whole process became intriguing and i had to know more. as a musician, i do auditions (though it's been a while). i had to see how they do it. since my roommate watched all the time, it was always on and i had to hear, if not see. i started watching more and more. i've seen about 1.5-2 full seasons now. this year i am blown away by the talent. it really is getting better every year. for that alone it is worth watching. and i'm still intrigued by the judges. i think that randy is the best overall judge, but it's the three of them combined that makes for a great result, because they each approach their job slightly differently. of course, when it comes time for the public to vote, all bets are off because it depends on who wants to spend the money to cast a vote.

if you want my opinions and guesses for this year, see the attached. (i reserve the right to amend my comments show-by-show (you never know ;))). :D
