Gun laws do they work

Then find your own version. There's an article linked to from the NRA website itself that says the same damned thing.

Oh, that's right, that would involve using facts instead of making crap up! No wonder you can't do it!

do WHAT??????????????????// I just quoted what the reporter stated the NRA said from the Huffington Post..OK, I am not disputing the NRA stance on the bill. Have not read the bill but the way the Huffington Post presented it, I would have been for it. It seems it awfully easy these days to convict someone with a a trial.

A scorned woman does not have to do much to make you or me a criminal thereby taking away every liberty we have without a trial. Something you might be real aware of Mr. Frothingslosh.

Yes..... I'd say the US is still rapidly on the down hill slide to 'Hell in a handbag', courtesy of the liberal left.

One more time,,, Have a nice day Mr. Frothingslosh:

Yes, yes, we know.
 • Unemployement is way down
 • GDP is up
 • the budget deficit is way down
 • gas prices are way down
 • job growth is way up
 • gay people are finally starting to get treated like everyone else
 • we're cutting back on criminalizing Mexicans for existing
 • we pulled out of Bush's illegal war in Iraq
 • we finally pulled out of our half-hearted war in Afghanistan
 • people are sick of the 80 wealthiest Americans running the nation and are saying so.
You've made it abundantly clear you consider the above to be a failure of epic proportions, are opposed to every single one of those bullet points, and consider even minimal American prosperity to be un-American and a direct threat to you.

And because I know you're uneducated enough to go there, please be advised that 'budget deficit' is NOT the same thing as 'national debt'.

Yes, yes, we know.

I know you were addressing blade, but sense I am also uneducated maybe you can educate me here. If a Mexican or a X, or X, or X comes in to this country illegally doesn't that make them a criminal?

Sorry, my mistake. I have said many times, but forgot this time. In the USA, not Australia, not UK, not Russia, but USA.

This is my drum to beat. Different Culture!!!

show me a place where Gun Laws (IN THE USA) have worked already. Not if it worked @ X then it could work in the USA. To be very honest, I think if I beat this drum long enough someone will come up with a shining example. It seems to be the odds have to be against not even having one. Of course if someone comes up with one, you know we are only going to say, well that's only one out of thousands. Now you can't accuse me of not being up front.

Hi Dick, I'm assuming you meant you should have included "in America" in the title. Somehow I doubt that would have prevented any of the follow-up posts that have occurred to date.

Sorry, I can't comment on where gun laws (control) have worked in the US. I simply don't know. I would suspect if any attempt at gun control was attempted in a particular area it would be doomed to failure as it requires a national approach.

You are so right. When I started this post, I didn't even know Australia had the gun laws they have. It didn't cross my mind that nobody could read my thoughts <Grin> I have mention it many times since then.

mentioning Australia, does anybody know what happened to John Big Booty? I hope nothing terrible happened.

Yes, yes, we know

You Said: *Unemployment is way down .[/OUOTE][/QUOTE

Yes, it is down to 5.8--5.7% which is where 2007 unemployment figures was. Shall I tell you who was in office at that time? What about all of those that gave up looking for employment which raises the real unemployment to 10-12%. Oh, and what about the jobs pay rate, Down, because most of the jobs like flipping burgers, a higher wage is not warranted.

YOU said: [FONT=&quot said:
GDP is up

Yes, (Funny, I keep saying YES), It was up in the third quarter to 5.6 percent up from the 2nd quarter of 4.6% and a 1st quarter GDP of negative numbers. Look to the fourth quarter 2014 being lower than expected.

[Quote = YOU said: the budget deficit is way down

Yes, It took us back to 2008 levels where $485 billion was the norm. In those years since then, $1200 to $1500 Billion have been the normal. Good to see it going back down, yet we still do have an $18 trillion dollar debt because of those years in between and nothing to show for it. This is up from 10.62 trillion dollars on Bush's last day in office.

[Quote = YOU said: *gas prices are way down

Yes, but remember back after Obama was elected, we conservatives said ”Drill Baby Drill”. Obama refused to let drilling in the public areas and did his best to shut down gulf platforms and private lands. Thank God somebody in the Dakota and other states had more sense than he did. You can thank your low gas prices to those states like the Dakotas and a few others who know what it takes to get lower gas prices, vs those Academia Liberal think Tanks who would run this country into the ground.

[Quote = YOU said: job growth is way up

Yes, employers added about 252,000 jobs in December. which is the best since 2008. The problem is that the majority of these jobs are part-time jobs due to Obama Care and this year all his and the democrats hidden taxes etc. in (ACL) Obama Care is going to compound the problem. Other 2014 4th quarter figures are not in yet but I suspect they will be lower than the third quarter which will again place about 2 steps away from another recession. Of course this is my opinion. I have been pretty right so far, not going to change now.

[Quote = YOU said: *gay people are finally starting to get treated like everyone else

Yes, you do mean the ones that want to be treated like everyone else . and not those that try to ram their being gay down other people’s throats. Kinda leaves a bad taste, but I guess you already know this.

[Quote = YOU said: *we're cutting back on criminalizing Mexicans for existing

Yes, Oh hell yes we are doing that alright, treating them like Gods. They can do no wrong, driving drunk and killing people,,, No Problem,,,, just go around shooting people,,,No Problem here either,, illegally crossing the border….No Problem here, ,,,do I need to go on. Shut the border down completely and let them come across like our ancestors did, legally otherwise they are criminals in my book.

[Quote = YOU said: *we pulled out of Bush's illegal war in Iraq

Yes, we did and created ISIS who kills everyone in sight. Even now Obama is trying to backpedal and send in troops while trying to keep the liberals from finding out. Ha Ha They (Liberals) had better learn to watch Fox a little more, That is the only place they will learn of his other activities. hehe.

[Quote = YOU said: *we finally pulled out of our half-hearted war in Afghanistan

Yes and now they will have turned it over to the Taliban within 6 months to one year. So now we have two failed wars, Bush’s and Obama’s.

[Quote = YOU said: *people are sick of the 80 wealthiest Americans running the nation and are saying so

NO, who is running the nation WHO…..Are the wealthy democrats who are running it. Come again there….I cannot hear you. The democrats have been in power for 6 years and the country is going to hell in a handbag. Look to Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, George Sorros, Kennedys, etc. shall I make a list for you. Those are your money people. All those liberal philanthropist and you want to blame somebody else. How pitiful

Yes, you call this minimal prosperity. My business is at its lowest in the last 20 years. People have no money to spend. The highest years for my business were when Bill Clinton and George Bush were in office. If it keeps up like this, I will probably shut it down by 2016 and all those employees will lose. Of, course I will blame it on Obama and the liberals. What did you expect? You know,,,,,”If the shoe fits wear it”

OH, thanks for the info which is why I included it. The last time I heard, they were separate but affected each other. Somehow it just seems to work that way. Or have they (Democrats) changed accounting procedures as well.

hope I have not missed anything.

You see essaytee that is the nub of the problem, when it was pointed out to Dick that gun laws worked in other countries he added "in America" to his conditions, and as you correctly point out it has to be a national control, it is no good Chicago being tough unless it sets up border controls.

I can't decide if Dick is being very clever or very stupid.

I vote for Probable "very stupid"
I admit I should have named US in the original post, but if you go thru many other post I did mention it. It is typical of me as well as others that what affects us is foremost in our minds. However, even in retrospect, we certainly couldn't be discussing GB, or Aussie or many other countries as they have already lost their rights concerning guns.
BTW: Brian, we agree. Can't just do Chicago. If it has any chance of being successful we have to do it on a national level. That calls for a constitutional amendment, not just what some jerk off president wants to do. Of course, there is no guarantee there either, take a look at the history of prophbition.

keep digging Brian keep digging

I don't think I want every Tom Dick and Harry to own a gun, although I have agreed in the past that there was a knee jerk reaction to the Dunblane massacre , I have also agreed that the USA is past redemption in regard to guns, the genie is not just out of the bottle but running wild.

Switzerland is how the USA should be if the intention of the founding fathers and the second amendment had been followed correctly.

Sorry I won't be in Florida , I've been a few times but think my travelling days are in the past.

Perhaps one of the issues at stake is much less acceptance of personal responsibility by too many people. When behavior is being excused or justified by pointing blame at one's parents, job, traffic, computer games, media, fast food, alignment of stars, Hollywood, the taste of coffee on Tuesday before the sun shines, the cost of bread in March, or any other ridiculous excuse; people will act without remorse, knowing it is unlikely they will suffer any consequence. As people in general, step up and start accepting responsibility for their actions, it could positively influence society with the snowball affect.

Wisdom, thank you and amen. Of course you just put yourself in the line of fire, (pun intended) with me and Blade.

I know some, if not many states actually do require that weapons stored in a vehicle be unloaded. Doesn't mean that they actually ARE unloaded, though, just that they're supposed to be.

The fact that no charges are being filed suggests that Florida is NOT one of those states, but even if it were, that's the kind of law that's virtually impossible to enforce.

I agree Frothingslosh, I think it would come down to common sense more than anything - Why keep a loaded gun in the same vehicle as a child? - No doubt he forgot that it was in there and the toddler found it.

Why it was kept loaded was a different matter entirely - (I would only keep it loaded if I was ready to shoot on command.) Keeping it unloaded gives you that split second to think about your actions.
