Hiatus

I'm going to take a break from this forum for a while. For sanity's sake I'm going to not read any posts or respond to any posts. I will, if necessary, respond to any reported posts (spam). The other moderators should be able to deal with things during my absence.

Bob, I hope you feel better soon.

For my part, I've decided not to take part in the water cooler any more, too many feathers get ruffled and too many people's feelings get hurt.

For me the one thing that is missing is any feedback from Bob. There is no doubt that he has contributed to the forum enormously and we all acknowledge that and thank him for his efforts. But at the same time there is no doubt in my mind that he did delete Rich and Mike. I have a copy of the last PM he sent to Rich and it was pretty strong. And this is after the he and the VIPs agreed that there would not even be any banning unless the VIPs agreed. But he took it one step further and deleted Richs profile and probably Mikes as well. And from the tone of the pm I personally have no doubt as to who screwed with the petition thread.

Bob, please jump in and help us bring a resolution to this kangaroo court so we can move on. If it wasn't you then I apologize to you and the other forum members for the accusations but for me at least, the evidence is pointing to you. Come back in, clear the air, and pick up where you left off mod’ing the tech sections and leave the discipline stuff to Stewart. There’s no sin in not being good at dealing with difficult people. I couldn’t and gave up mod’ing myself. You’re too good of a tech person to loose.

there are two things that struck me here
firstly
that guy Rich is determined to take Larson down with him
and secondly by his actions Larson has brought the former great name of this forum into disrepute.
For all he knows that guy Rich could be flooding the internet with this, I don't know what significance, if any, this might have on his future employment prospects but the other even more frightening thing for Larson is that Rich could be here under any user name at any time and Larson will never know he's here, gosh that must be a scary thought for Larson, now having to look over his shoulder day and night.
Obviously that guy Rich feels deeply aggrieved I wonder what the answer and way out is for Bob now?
I've been searching on many forums for Access answers over the years and I've never seen anything like this, ever anywhere

Puzzled - When I was banned, I couldn't even get into the forums. Wouldn't Bob have Rich's IP address and be able to ban him from registering under a different name?

Personally I don't know, I'm not sure what mods can see as far as computer ID goes. All I know is that I couldn't get to anything in the forums nor the AWF home pages etc etc. That's why I used Utter Access site to communicate.

I have signed up because I think I need to add my twopence worth here. For some time now I have, like many, browsed the pages of this forum more than any forum because they are easy to read and because when your brain gets tired you can always pop into the water cooler and read some comments and opinions on other topics.

It seems to me that the situation has got out of hand here. Have you all lost sight of the fact that there is someone, a human, at the other end of your actions / words? I find it distasteful that such heated arguments have occurred. I find it distasteful that it appears that only the opinions certain people appear to matter.

Would any of you initiate a public stoning? I very much doubt it. So why do you find it acceptable to verbally stone each other in public in this manner?

Puzzled has a point. It's bad enough to rumble like this in the privacy of your forum, but to take it outside? What on Earth is going on? Get a grip! All of you!

Seems you have a lot of inside information into this and could be called on as an expert witness. We need more people like you, helping to stir this up so we don't have to worry about our forum recovering and going back to what it used to do best. Thank you so much for helping us to understand just how bad we have it.

And it takes a lot of bravery to show up here with 4 posts, already knowing your way around, knowing how to use the forum software, and having all this information that was presumably private communications between two of our members, and take on this important issue. ZOMG, how could we ever survive as a forum without the information you're providing us? Why, we would have to go back to answering questions about Access, but you've saved us from that. God forbid that we would actually do what our name implies we do.</sarcasm>

Are you from the UK? I base that guess on the 'two pence' comment? Who else uses that phrase? Does anyone in the UK even use it?

If Rich's profile really has been deleted then that is a serious impact on the site's database itself. As Mile-O said, 19,000 post records orphaned. Thank God there wasn't a cascading delete relationship there.

I hope the owner of the site was told before it happened. I'd be fricken' furious if someone did that to my site without telling me.

That response pretty much tells me who you are, not that it matters much to me.

This topic has absolutely no value to anything in life, for the forum, for me, for you, for Bob, for mankind. It is a way to stay bitter and to stir up resentment. That is not good for the forum and decreases the forum's overall value to the Access using community of the world. And while I'm here with you (and by extension, all the excellent talent who is here dealing with you), I'm not helping people with their Access problems. Stop being so selfish, if you want to burn Bob, he has his own web site and e-mail address, go bother him there.
