I now think B Obama is the best choice for America and the world

It is my hope. Maybe Obama can send his media thugs after me now to find all the skeletons in my closet. Or perhaps they can make fun of me on SNL.

I suffered and benefitted equally during the 90s & 00s.

At least you're being honest. It is definitely Obama's intent to raise our taxes...I'm confident he won't stop on just the $250K people.

I interviewed at AIG for an executive position. From what I could tell, the executives I interviewed with work very hard there. Though that's not what I was talking about. (And I'm not particularly happy with the way they run their IT shop there, either. There is some welfare and outright waste going on there.)

I was talking about you or any other person with enough knowledge, skill, and gumption to go out and make more. You shouldn't have to be penalized because you make more money than me (and vice versa).

BTW, from what I could tell about AIG's IT department and what little I know about you, I believe you had/have a better chance getting in there than I ever did or will.

Spread the wealth! Obama for chief wealth re-distributor.

So basically, you agree that Obama's plan is more responsible, i.e., some taxes must be raised, but you just think he is lying about his plan? Why? Is McCain lying about his plan too?

It is not about penalizing those who make more. Right now, I pay proportionally more of my income in taxes than some of the CEO's at AIG. Why? Because of tax loopholes and tax cuts for the wealthy. Not only are they not being penalized for making more, they are being disproportionately rewarded. I just want everyone to pay their fair share. We have gone around this subject before, I believe in a progressive taxation system. In a progressive taxation system, when you make more, you pay a larger proportion of your income in taxes. To keep the regressive system that the Bush administration has created, where the wealthy are paying proportionally LESS of their income in taxes, is not fair to working people like me AND it hurts the economy overall.

Re: Kiss your money goodbye

No, it would have been even funnier if Obama had been hitting the blue collar guy over the head with the wrench. "What, you don't agree with me? I'll sick my thugs in the media on you! We'll teach you to have an independent thought."

Spread the wealth, baby.

That's got to be one of the most ignorant statements I've seen come from you or on this forum. And you're the one always complaining about the immaturity of other members.

All the thug talk, george, I'm glad I can now write you off as another simple-minded individual with a closed door. I almost thought you were intelligent enough for a real debate, I guess I was wrong. At least I found out early enough. You seem to be incapable of having an actual debate without insulting the people you are debating with or the individuals involved in the debate topic. You repeat yourself as much as Col, but never really say ANYTHING. At least his repetitive posts sometimes have merit.

I am really looking forward to this election being over. I think that once people have chosen a candidate, their capacity for reasonable debate declines in direct proportion to their strength of support for that candidate (I am talking about myself too here). Once the election is decided, I predict that things will cool down.

Of course it will cool down. I'm only wondering if, WHEN Obama does win, will the people like George respect him as the President he is, since they always seem to demand it for Bush.

My taxes are a confiscated gift to you

No, I don't believe that even suggesting he's going to raise taxes during tough economic times is very responsible at all.

But I have no doubt he'll raise taxes. He outright said it and you agreed.

I'm not sure where you're getting information that executives don't pay their fair share of taxes. While I was an executive, I don't remember thinking it was fair at all and I don't recall getting any breaks that made it any easier.

Spread the wealth. Forced confiscation and class envy is the way to go.

Ofcourse they won't, but they will benefit from the improved leadership all the same.

So, it is irresponsible to adjust the tax rates to account for spending? Is it more responsible to continue to run up the deficit? I mean, we are already past 10 trillion, why not shoot for 100 trillion?

Sorry to bother you.

Of couse taxes have to go up.
America has been fighting two wars for the past several years and financing it through borrowing (have taxes gone up since Afganistan and Iraq began?).
One of the first things Obama will have to do when he takes office is deal with the "PAST DUE" notices he'll be getting from the banks.

Sorry, just a little uptight that several really good people have been attacked in the media and on these forums with absolutely no checks and balances. Just thought I'd add a few.

dk, why don't you try getting your facts from news articles instead of "opinion" columns?

I'll respect Obama on these forums as much as Bush's detractors on these forums have respected him. That's not saying much.

Just getting tired of being beat up here for having a politcal view different than the prevailing (or squeaky wheel) view.

After the financial crisis is over.

Really? I've never heard that. I'm not disputing you and I'd like to know what is your source?

I was there at the time as I'm sure you were.
This is why there is a multinational presence in Afganistan (Canadians, French etc.)

The US tried to get the UN to go along with Iraq but they were turned down flat. I believe the US and Britain were the only countries to vote yes.

DO you really think that you are personally going to net more than 250k per year? Even though only 2% of the population acheives that? That is a side question.

Thanks for dashing the hopes of the American Dream. That gives me no incentive to work or to work harder. If everyone felt this way of course we would have a loser society that I am now calling the "Gimme Society".

Thanks for putting everyone down and telling us we can't succeed. Your message is working, but you're not getting my vote.

After the financial crisis is over.

You are again agreeing with Obama's plan, which is to raise tax levels back to what they were, once the immediate crisis has passed, as opposed to McCain's plan which is to not raise anybody's taxes ever regardless of the size of the deficit.
