Question for the members who are in England

All sounds like Sydney Australia.

If you would like to migrate to Australia then the following will greatly increase your chances of acceptance.

1) Unable to speak English. In fact if can speak English you will probably be rejected.

2) Hate the Australian culture and general way of life.

3) Have heaps of relatives that bring over at a later date, none of whom will be capable of working.

3) A belief and attitude that Australian law will not be relvant to you.

4) And this is one is the cruncher that will guarantee your application will be accepted. You must hate not only Australia but also America, England, Canada and similar, in fact any country where English is the language and where a basic Judai?Christian culture exists. Even better is you swear to destroy it.

I'm glad to hear this, because when this is all started, and even before the stupidity came into play, I never had a penny to my name. So the best thing in the world that I would like to see would be to have all of the rich people of the world fall to their knees, and I won't be sheading a tear. Better yet, I would like to see every single banking institution fail as well. That is the best opportunity for poor people like me, so I am ALL for it. Go democrats! One way or another, I could care less, with no assets, no bank savings, and no job, I don't care the slightest little bit.

That does sound very heartless. I wonder if you thought this through before you posted it?

You haven’t had a go at the NHS yet, so let me help you out with that one. Our beloved devolved government did us the great favour and abolishing payment in hospital car parks - well most of them any way. I understand you guys down there in England are campaigning for the same? Don’t! It doesn’t work. All it does is turn the hospital car parks into unofficial park and ride parks and people who legitimately need the parking can’t get any.

And don’t bother trying to see a doctor! Most of the surgeries here tell you to phone at 8.30 of the morning you want to see the doctor. So you phone to find that the line is engaged for half an hour, when you finally get through the receptionist tells you there are no appointments and if you want one you have to phone at 8.30!!

When you do get to see a doctor, they can only give you ten minutes of their time. But that’s ok because they have a small selection of options for your diagnosis:

1. You’re stressed, stop smoking and take these antidepressants
2. You’re depressed, stop smoking and take these antidepressants
3. There’s nothing wrong with you, it’s smoking that’s causing the symptoms so stop smoking and take these antidepressants, just in case…

Don’t even bother trying to go to A&E. You’ll take your place in the queue behind the aforementioned 15 year old drunks only to be attended to by a 15 year old intern who has only learned how dish out antidepressants and tell you to stop smoking.
Have to speak out in defence of the Welsh NHS, here.
My Mum died of cancer in January and I was back and forth between Canada and home (Cardiff) on multiple occasions for the six months or so preceding that. Being out of the country obviously meant a constant worry about how my family back home were being treated.

Luckily, both of my parents had nothing but praise for the way in which they were treated, the professionalism of the staff, the support they got - both from the cancer specialists and the local GP - and the speed with which everything happened. I'd agree with almost everything else said about the UK in this thread, but I'll be eternally grateful to the NHS for that reason alone. Perhaps they just got lucky.

That's (ALMOST) as messed up as here (U.S.). And, since 1974 (Expo '74) I've kind of wanted to live in Australia. But, I've never had the nerve to give it a go. Guess I won't bother now that I know that (not that I probably would have any way :D )

Alc I'm sorry to hear about your mother, and just as glad to hear that she had decent treatment. My comments on the NHS were, obviously a combination of my own frustration and a generalisation of others I have spoken to. However, I will echo your comments. My mother had a brain tumour removed a few years back and both she and my dad have nothing but praise for the NHS treatment she got. I'm not sure how it works but the system (like most) seems to work better for some than for others.

Looks like I've stirred up a bit here. Too bad if it's caused grief, but i really don't care personally. My father want to jail, I ran a household, and I've gotten screwed by head hunters' promises in a competitive market. So, in other words, I could hold grudges, but i don't. I will get even one day, but don't expect me to be giving money to children in Nigeria for textbooks when I'll be spending the rest of my days paying back debt.

It's unbelievable to me how people expect us to PAY PAY PAY for things that "unfair" when we can't even feed or clothe ourselves. I'm sorry, but ME FIRST. If you don't like it, you can kiss "you know what".

And BTW Colin, being an Accountant has it's advantages. If it's ANYTHING I know, it's how to save every single penny every single way I possibly can. It's all in the tax code and the IRS publications bro. Just READ, if you have the time (which most people don't unfortunately!)

You really ought to lose the chip on your shoulder, otherwise you'll just grow old and bitter
