Shootings in Tucson

Well despite your experiences I believe you have made the wiser decision. If you were carrying a gun that night, you MAY have killed when as it turned out, it wasn't necessary. This is not only beneficial for the criminal but beneficial for you.

You remain free from this coercion that gun ownership seems to enforce. It is this freedom that I think is more valuable than being able to kill at any given time.

This is the only part where we part company. I think that the common man shouldn't be allowed to be coerced in the way that gun ownership does. What's at stake is too valuable.

As I said in a previous post.... I would like for things to be cut and dry, but they are not, I have seen too much violence to me and my family, done by the hands of those who were legally up to no good, so I guess my mind is made up, and we will have to agree to disagree.

By the way it would be polite if you revealed who you actually are. It's clear you're well versed in both mine and Col's idiosyncrasies. I'll leave it with you.

Its a bit suspicious as according to his profile he joined in 2004 but his first post was this year !!

OK, I'll answer your question..... I don't know the answer. But surely even you understand the difference between a handgun and a bomb....

I think a bomb is unpredictable and could cause a lot of unintentional damage above and beyond what a handgun is capable of, so comparing a handgun to a bomb is a pretty unfair example.

Having said that, however, if you look at the type of "arms" that were available to the common folk when the Constitution was written, and compare it to what is available to the common folk now, it is as much of a comparison between a handgun and a bomb.

The right to bear arms was important in the past, but not nearly as much now. I think we should be putting major restrictions on gun ownership in this country, but as politicians on both sides of the issue will say, the NRA is far too powerful to do that.

Which is really sad, when you think about it. On politcs, we're split. On religions we're split. So called "entitlement", abortion, education, we're pretty much split on everything, except gun ownership. Some how that one issue is so important that an organization that supports & represents it has become incredibly powerful.

Indeed but as you say it's good to be able to hold and discuss opinions that are. :)

And that is very true.... It's sometimes hard however to speak an opinion in the light of so much adveristy :p

So I got lambasted for the suggestion at first but now you guys are on board?

Brian remains remarkably free from cynicism and always seems to offer the benefit of the doubt before all the facts are in. I, on the other, was with you all the way. :p

Brain is a remarkable individual, as are many of the folks here.

Tony, Col and Whomever else he pretends to be, are mostly unhappy, and looking for some kind of redemption.

But I still like him, and hope he finds happiness before it's too late.

I wonder what really brought Brian on board...

I have thought about the Colin/AnthonyGerrard thing for many days now..... He's been a member since 2004 but only had 16 posts, and just now starting commenting on things remarkably in line with Colin talking to Bob about all the names he has on different IPs etc. as well as making Colin-like comments and asking Colin-like questions. (Not a bad thing, just identifying)

Now, let's be clear, I don't care if it is.... I just don't like to be duped. ;)

Now if it isn't Col, then OK, but as Brian said it is all very suspicious.

I'm not going to go into who it is, but I will say that having multiple registered accounts is against the rules of the forum. I recommend the person either stop using this one and go back to their normal account or tell me if they intend to start using this one, so we can block the old account. Otherwise, I'll just make the decision for them. ;)

Speaking of the shooting in Tucson... I just read that they are/have moved Giffords to a hospital here in Houston...

AnthonyGerrard is not me. Nor I am him.

Col

Not only is he a violent idiot, he has poor grammar and spelling skills as well.

That is a far cry from a definitive statement and an even farther cry from the claim that an increase in concealed weapons reduces the incidence of voilent crimes.

That should be "a further cry. . . . " and "voilent" is spelt "violent".

Otherwise, you did quite well.

Is it possible to have my old username back please? (ColinEssex) I think it would avoid confusion.

Thank you.

I've already been asking about that. I'll let you know.

I'm well aware of that already. I know exactly who he is and he knows who he is. ;)

Nothing like making people super curious...... I understand the discretion involved, but man my gossip glands are working. :p
