What's up with this?:

Have you considered the fact that there might be trigger words that the site's filters are complaining about?

New members are not able to post links. Doing so will result in that message and the post will be blocked

I go another one in response to this reply attempt: "Yes. Because my autoexec pulls up the first form in Read-Only mode."

That "Oops" message occurs when you try to post and your signature area contains a link. It also occurs if you attempt to copy a link, even one to a post in this forum. If you copied something including highlighting a section that included a link. Also if you click the Reply option at the lower right of a post, and the post contained a link, you trip the blocking mechanism.

I did not know that Doc. How many posts does one have to have before that restriction goes away?

I posted no links.
Unfortunately this forum software addon that limits new posters from posting links is unable to distinguish that links to other parts of the site are unlikely to be malicious.

When you hit 'Reply' to a thread it creates a quote box with the OP's post which also contains a link back to that post. Just using the forum's own Reply feature is enough to create a link without you having to do so explicitly.

It's really stupid.

It does seem silly - on first inspection - that a message would be flagged for links if a previous message was quoted. But from the marketers perspective, if this check didn't exist then they would just quote anothers post, edit the link in there to their own site, and benefit from this link to promote their site. Google factors in links to websites as a vote for that website, and therefore pushes you up the rankings, for those who didn't already know.

That's understandable if the quote contains a link written by the poster being quoted; but it is the denying of the actual link in the quote box itself which is daft - the text in front of little circle with the up arrow in the attached image is a link:

When someone naively hits 'Reply' to a post this link is created automatically and triggers the spam warning which is confusing an off-putting to new posters posting in good faith.

All these links begin https://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/goto/post?id=......

Whitelisting just www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/goto/ would solve that problem, but also prevent crafty spammers editing links.

Sorry, none of the above apply. I literally typed in my response from my keyboard and got the message when I clicked "Post Reply"

That may be, but that message can popup for other reasons as well because it happened to me a few years back. This particular reason being discussed is just one of the reasons.

Can you make simple replies now, or do you always get that message? How are you able to reply to this thread? Seems like it's working for you now.

Sometimes there is a blip on the site. I have had that message myself, when just posting, with no links, and I am able to post links when needed.

I note that you are no longer being blocked from replying to this thread.

Perhaps it's no more complicated than the old "Turn it off. Turn it back on." method.

When you left the site and came back, the appropriate settings were updated.
