Why The Gun Is Civilization

That's right. They just abolished the criminal court system in the UK due to lack of business.

Poor Barristers, they must be out working in the pubs now. (terminology joke that I don't know that most outside the U.S. would get)

I said I plagiarized it dumbo :p

Speaking of errors I noticed you had to edit your own post -:p:p

:)
ken

Editing a post is not indicative of the poster making an error, although I suspect in your case it is.

Nice to see you can actually call someone a name other than the boring old 'horses ass' - I was beginning to think you couldn't think of another.

I wondered whether "Dumbo" should have a capital "D"? Isn't it the name of an elephant in some sickly American cartoon? As usual it's difficult to know in what context you're using it.

Do you have anything to say in regard to the original content of the thread or are you simply going to continue hi-jacking yet another thread and plaster it with your typical grunting & moaning and run even more posters out of the forum?

Ken,

You must have realised that posting a thread on this topic would provoke reaction from you know whos, and unsavoury responses, in some court of laws that would be classed as entrapment

I respect your views on gun culture, even if I think that you are wrong.

We are having minority issues of knife crimes in our schools, shootings in our street, innocents like Rys Jones being killed, and for why.

Why, because knife and gun culture is glamourised in media, film, and music..

Many kids these days do not carry knifes because they are afraid, they carry them because they think they are being cool.

Same with guns, wow I must be a big man because I am packing..

The media and other outlets should be accountable, if they are going to glamourise, they should also show the negatives, so that again people can make an informed choice not a one sided choice.

Gary it must be catching as I too am rambling..:D

I thought he would at least make an effort at a counter argument instead of attacking me personally...:(

And if I may add a footnote to your / this rant; As long as people like this:

Link

Are the role model for young blacks (and some white kids for that matter), the gun stuff will only get worse. :(

Now you are starting to get to the root cause of the issue.

Lets take a look at one of our UK (so-called) supermodels Kate Moss.

She was until quite recently dating an overated druggie rocker who is just going to end up dead, she too was involved heavily in drug abuse whilst she was with him, and always in the media because of it.

At the time she was modelling for Rimmel adverts on TV, what did they do...

Instead of denouncing her activities and booting her contract with them into touch, they increased the amount of times that she appears on TV advertising their products, what sort of image is that portraying to young people.

I will tell you what image, that of that taking drugs is glamourous :mad:

By the way she is also a mum with a young child.

If the NAACP were truely in the business of helping colored people they would go after the record companies and radio stations for associating with this T.I. rapper thug instead of ... well you get my drift.

Ken,

You and I are old enough to know that controversy sells papers, records, make-up.. whatever.

How much has ever sold due to being nice and boring...

Good point. You'd think the controversy Col brings to this forum would bring in the posters, not run them away - :)

edit: I think Col is quite a charismatic fellow when he's not belittling me and the rest of the Americans in the forum. :)

That's just his way, accept it and move on.

Unfortunately Americans are judged by GWB, not by who the individual person is, and Col cannot see past that.

If Ken continues to needle then he'll get a response.

We were asked for one weeks peace by K and we did it, the week is now over.

The gun culture has been thrashed here already - we did it in 2003 (ish) and many times since.
This is just a provocative thread to stir things up then blame someone else, then the originator will wallow in self righteousness.

Americans are judged by their country's leaders and actions - thats life. However, when a certain someone decides to back off, then so will I. I fear however, the ice caps will be long gone before that happens.

As I mentioned in the thread, this is entrapment

More like invitation than entrapment. Entrapment implies being unwittingly involved and I think this is far from the case.

It takes two to tango and this dance became tedious a long time ago.

and a single gay guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats.

You can transpose this argument - a single nut with a gun will be on equal footing with car load of law abiding citizens. So the single nut becomes more powerful than they should be beacuse they have a gun. (This imagines that some people do not have guns).

The only alternative (to some people not carrying guns) is for everyone to carry guns - and even the US thinks thats a stupid idea.

"When I carry a gun, I don't do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I'm looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn't limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation...and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act."

It does however encourage you not to engage in reasonable discourse with the use of your intellect because you have no further need of doing so. All you have to do is point your fire-arm at someone if they are not seeing things your way.

It's what hostage negotiators do, they use their brains to communicate. This ridiculous line of argument requires the subject to have no brain at all.

'Course the other option is to move to a civilised country, like the UK:cool:

Well in a civilised country like here, ...

Is this what you consider CIVILIZED?

LONDON, England (AP) -- Nurses who didn't wash their hands and left patients lying in soiled beds were cited in an official report blaming mismanagement for the deaths of 90 people who contracted a bacterial infection in hospitals in southern England.

"Significant failings" at all levels contributed to infections of more than 1,000 patients at three hospitals, the Healthcare Commission said Thursday......

And its very popular - you should see the queues when a dentist opens up - and pensioners queueing out in the rain at 7 in the morning to see a GP.

People queue for months for a new hip! It has to be good!

Yeah, don't get sick in the U.K. because all british nurses are like that.

People are resorting to pulling their own teeth out because they can't afford a dentist. Uk hospital infections are rampant. People are left in their own filth because nurses are too busy.

Yes, todays NHS is a sight to behold.

The thing is - we admit it.
