This site is too damn slow but let's try.
I agree with you Dan, and its not all the Ukers who have ago at America, but only a fool does not take precautions in a strange, infact any, City. I don't drive at night and this can mean taxis home from the theatre as too many drunks travel on public transport. Our press is full of murders and violence its just that certain people like to have a go at the USA on any issue.

PS how is New Orleans? Its dropped off the news here but a tour we were going to do in April was cancelled because it N.O.was included, but it is readvertised for next year. BTW We've been but don't mind going again.

The news groups tell you about how many murders occur on the streets. They DON'T tell you that perhaps 70% to 80% are all drug-related turf wars - gangsters looking to secure their territory from those who would compete with them. They also don't tell of how often one of these shootings was in self-defense. That's not news.

Also a lot of the murders are committed by someone the victim knows, husband, boyfriend, etc.

We're going through the same type of thing here right now with the gangs. We're on pace to set a record for the number of murders, but most of the killings have been gang related and/or have been in the "bad" part of town. There was also one person who was arrested after killing at least 3 people (possibly more) and severely beating at least 3 others in order to rob them. One lady (who was working at a store that he robbed) he hit in the head with a hammer (but let her live after she begged him to let her go home to her 5 kids). Although they all seemed random at first, all of his victims were people he either lived close to or operated shops close to his neighborhood. It's really sad. But I don't think he used a gun once. He beat his victims to death (or near death).

I wouldn't say that, but its interesting you did (as an American) - you should know;)

You know I dont like to split hairs :D , but I'm actually Canadian. It's okay, we're all one big happy family over here. :)

"Guns don't kill people. People kill people." I'll add that even without guns, violence abounds any place you go.
Except that if you take guns out of the equation people have a much better chance of defending themselves therefore it stands to reason that the number of murders fall

Are you sure about that, the Canadians I know would beg to differ:confused:

Alright, I'll rephrase it. Us Canadians and Americans are all just the same to you guys. Just like how the citizens of the UK are all the same to us.

No, try again Matty, Americans and Canadians are nothing like the same to us

Well then all New Yorkers, and to the same extent, Americans, must be killers.
If it was illegal in the USA to own guns, then there's a good chance that the greatest pop group of all time wouldn't have been stopped in their tracks of a possible reformation by the senseless murder of John Lennon on a New York street by an American with a gun.

Strange how the people of the USA hated The Beatles when John said they [The Beatles] meant more to young people than Jesus - burning records, photos, burning efegies, wishing hell and damnation on John etc.

Then he was killed by an American, so it seems all those people who wanted him dead got their wish.

That's because the Beatles spread a true Christian message, odd that so many Americans were offended by it:rolleyes:

Why does that not surprise me. As we seem to surround ourselves with the like-minded, I'm sure you could come stateside and find every single anti-US oriented individual here. (Anyone else getting one of those "Pied-Piper"-type ideas?? )

what actually does "stateside" mean? is it on the [united] states side of the Atlantic?

(for US members who no nothing of geography) - the Atlantic [Ocean] is the body of water between Europe and the North Americas.

Well to be pedantic that's the North Atlantic, the South Atlantic is the body of water between Africa and South America, it kinda makes sense.
