Complacency is the biggest issue in Capitalist Democratic countries...
The Government in the UK is absolutely rubbish and out of touch, but whilst the majority of the UK Population, myself included, are more than happy to just whine and are too complacent to do anything about it things will never change...
The biggest tool the UK has to voice it's opinion is at the Ballot box, but when the major parties are all pretty much the same, it isnt even worth using your voice...

am embarrassed by (Australia)
I recently heard that the approval rating of our Congress is at a all time low (9%). The president's approval rating is also pretty low.
It was never meant to be a full time career, after you did you civic duty you went back to your real job...being a farmer or store clerk.
I have a novel revolutionary idea. Instead of electing pushy people who are all show and no substance why don't we select people by a lottery draw to serve as representatives of their community in their legislature. Yes we will get some cranks/nutcases but we will also get some good people as well. It's not as if the present system always produces the best results
What have they done that's embarrassing.
I do think that the Green Element of legislation is not for the welfare of the planet but as another form of stealthly taxing the populace.
There are lots of arguments for and against Global Warming, for instance this year was the lowest ever recorded temperature at the Pole, forgive me but isnt the clue in the title, Global Warming...
I believe that the earth is going through a cycle and would have done whether we pumped CO2 into the atmoshpere or not, now there is some evidence that we have speeded up the cycle, but we are certainly not the cause..
It is the same in the UK with Fracking, so many enviromentalists on the band wagon saying how bad it is yet ignoring the obvious that if we do not do something old people will die of the cold and the lights will go out... to all those opposed I simply say Frack Off!!!
Was a ridiculous cynical attitude.
There are many arguments both ways. However those against, such as claiming that the record low (half a degree lower at minus 100) are facile. You simply ignore the vast body of evidence and cling to whatever suits your prejudice.
On what evidence do you bast this "certain" claim?
The planet doesn't just go through cycles without causes. In fact all the known regular cycles should have us heading into an ice age which is what scientists had previously expected. Temperatures were falling and suddenly turned around in the mid twentieth century.
It is known that atmospheric CO2 is fundamental in the climate cycles. We have raised them over fifty percent to levels that have not occurred on the planet for millions of years.
Having read much by climate change deniers I have concluded that by and large they are greedy people who are unwilling to invest even small amounts in change even though failure to do so will place an enormous cost on future generations.
Have you investigated anything about fracking? Have you seen what it does to the landscape? Are you aware that these well pass through our water table? Are you aware of the hundreds of toxic chemicals in fracking fluid? Have you seen the methane bubbling up in streams after wells are drilled nearby? Do you realise that many fracking sites extract vast amounst of often salty water from deep underground and leave it sitting in holding dams for decades?
