Today, Jesse Waters teased that he would be asking random people with the question: "Who was the first President?"
I didn't see the video clip, (so I missed out seen all the laughable responses) but I was expecting that the correct answer would be: George Washington. But, wait, maybe that was really a trick question.
Before the Constitution we had the Articles of Confederation. So who was President then?
Since I was clueless, I had to actually do some real investigative work to find an answer.
It should be noted that the title “President of Congress,” is not the same as the title “President of the United States.” George Washington became the first President of the United States in 1789, after the newly adopted United States Constitution supplanted the old and unworkable Articles of Confederation.
