There are few factory workers in New York City, but it is a wealthy place because it has many high-paying service jobs. Moving low value-added manufacturing work to other countries has improved America's standard of living by allowing Americans to work in services and high value-added manufacturing.

As for stocks, I will go gradually back in if things stabilize. Only half the losses were recovered yesterday and the Trump's pissing match with Xi will still cause economic problems. Stock prices are still high relative to earnings and revenues.

They won't be able to trump Trump. Not even one iota. It all goes back to democracy of being elected into a powerful position. The guy is going to get the job we elected him to do done. Nonsense is an unelected opinion that has zero weight in the grand order of things that are constitutional. The constitution provides a huge amount and trust into the commander in chief. Gorden Chang raised that very issue in regards to China. Their economy is in bad shape. Xi Jinping may seek a war as a means to further consolidate his power and to distract the public from current economic woes which trade war escalation will only further exacerbate China's economic problems.

Not only does China have economic issues but they have demographic issues that will only make their economy worse. Their former "one family, one child" policy - plus the sudden surge in Chinese amniocentesis exams to determine gender - plus a surge in abortions to choose the gender of the one child they were permitted to have - all have combined to cause a radical population shift. At the moment, China has 116 males for every 100 females when the rest of the world is more like 107/100. China is no longer the world's most populated country. India is now the country with the highest population, and that happened in 2022. Worse, their labor force is aging out. Their 60+ population is now 28% of their total. When THEIR health-care requirements start hitting hard, they will either have to ignore their old folks or will have to re-balance their wartime economy.

The Biden/Harris presidential candidate bait-and-switch is ALREADY the worst thing that has happened in this country (politically) since the nation was founded. Of if it is not the worst, it is a top-5 contender for that honor. DJT has a VERY high bar to cross in order to earn the particular accolade you offered.

Who cares if China makes cheap chotchkes for Walmart. A country that cannot manufacture its own drugs or bullets or ships is doomed. China is ramping up to invade Taiwan. Their window to annex Taiwan is closing rapidly. Right now they have an excess of military age males due to their one child policy. Excellent for war. And they have economic problems that a war would mask - way too many old people. China has in the past threatened to not make drugs for us. If they would stop making fentanyl, that would be excellent but antibiotics, not so much.

Why do you think manual labor is less valuable than intellectual labor? Personally I think that paying actors and athletes obscene salaries is a crime. My plumber gets paid an hourly wage that far exceeds what the average office worker earns. He does a dirty job but he is a necessity to society as we know it. Why would you devalue his contribution to society? It is that elitist attitude that convinced a couple of generations of our children that they had to incur tens of thousands/hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt to go to college to study basket weaving. Now they're working as baristas and living in their parent's basement because they have no marketable skills.

I think using the autopen to sign for Biden when he was not able to think for himself is probably worse. Talk about a soft coup. And it wasn't even the VP who was running the country.
