Americans forget that a regular phrase or word perfectly understood by Americans

Punctuation and capitalization matter. That is why we (adults, at least) bother to use them. Nobody calls CNN "Cable News Network". They call it CNN. The acronym has replaced the word. Does anyone say "British Broadcasting Company"? I don't know the acronyms of other British channels but if someone referred to "a British broadcasting company" would you assume BBC or recognize that the term was generic?

No. Its actually British Broadcasting Corporation. Its often referred to as 'the Beeb' or 'Auntie' because its part of the British fabric, like a family if you like.

No, it demonstrates that no one knows its actual name because everyone calls it BBC. Just like no one knows CNN's name except you. But since proper nouns are capitalized, the fact that the name wasn't cap'd should have been your clue. You could assume I am ignorant of the proper usage of English OR you could assume I am not ignorant and therefore, the lack of caps would have been a clue if you didn't pick up on the use of "a" rather than "the".

I can understand that some Americans like you don't know what BBC stands for. But I can't believe that Americans don't know what CNN stands for.
So I'm afraid your comments must be viewed with scepticism. You live on one continent, I live on another, I speak English, you speak a strange format of English. Its different, just accept it and stop trying to stir things when there's nothing to stir. What is your problem? Maybe I can help. I know it's not easy for you being an American.
