All good fun?

They're not grammatically incorrect

You won't find a single doctor willing to diagnosis someone with the affliction of 'paranoid'. Afflictions are nouns, 'paranoid' is an adjective.

One can be in a paranoid state.
One can be paranoid.
One cannot be suffering from paranoid.

I can't fight this battle any longer. Grammar is not my friend, therefore I am not properly armed to fight in this battle of wits. I shall humbly back out. :o

Correct they wouldn't be suffering from the affliction 'paranoid' they would be suffering from the affliction 'paranoia'. There is no such affliction as 'paranoid' because 'paranoid' is an adjective whilst an 'affliction' is a noun.

Like I said, I don't think you know what 'paranoid' means.

The noun paranoid has one meaning:

Meaning #1: a person afflicted with paranoia
Synonym: paranoiac

and you're suffering from Paranoid Personality Disorder

I'm just waiting for the original discussion to come back around...:)

Republicans love to shoot poor animals. As well as put criminals to death. However the Democrats love to kill poor unborn fetus and let criminals live. Which is worse?
Republicans. The Democrats kill potential criminals, thusly saving the lives of their would-be victims. :D

which refers to an individual and not an affliction. So you still used the term incorrectly

Although the diagnosis of pure paranoia is no longer used (having been superseded by the diagnosis of delusional disorder) the use of the term to signify the presence of delusions in general, rather than persecutory delusions specifically, lives on in the classification of paranoid schizophrenia, which denotes a form of schizophrenia where delusions are prominent.
Rich, I'm sure you're aware propriety dictates that when one quotes verbatim from another source, it is requisite to credit that source, lest you give the false impression the statement is your own.

No fight with you Selenau ;) - I think we both agree that it's not a very nice term to call somebody now that Rich has enlightened us with his wisdom. Especially if you know somebody close who suffers from a related condition.

Paranoid Personality Disorder is an affliction, Paranoid is an abbreviation of the same:rolleyes:

I also know someone with said affliction. I tend to not take that stuff seriously, especially since Col first directed that term at me. I take care of Col in PM's. ;)

PS it is Selena.....you don't have to use the u. lol ;)

Ok. This is the first post in the thread, and this is as far as I could get. My morbid curiosity made me look in here to see how this new thread could get so long in so short a time, and I think I just lost my lunch as a result. Thanks, Col!!

Thanks for the compliments, Kraj. I'm quite the complete package, aren't I? :D

I've actually been a member since 2001, so I think I'll be able to put up with it.
