Actually there is a ICD9 code for Paranoid State. 297.9 and/or 297.0. So, I guess there is such an affliction.

They're not grammatically incorrect

You won't find a single doctor willing to diagnosis someone with the affliction of 'paranoid'. Afflictions are nouns, 'paranoid' is an adjective.

One can be in a paranoid state.
One can be paranoid.
One cannot be suffering from paranoid.
